Bigpond Media Manager fails to start

I have a Sony VAIO with Vista Home Premium

I went to the Bigpond Movies and downloaded and installed the Media Manager - it seemed to install correctly.

However - when I start the Media Manager I get an error which states that it encountered and error and will close.

When I look at the Service it is not started - when I manually start it I get a message that it started and stopped straight away.

In my application logs I get an error which indicates it can not find part of the path 'c:\document and settings\all users\application data......\_cache'

The thing is - my machine has all the users under c:\users - that was how the machine came!

Any thoughts on this - is my machine setup differently to everyone else?

Thanks,
Col.

Hi mackrory
Try right click on the Media Manager icon and Run as administrator.

Re: Bigpond Media Manager fails to start

In that case.
I would check the Microsoft .NET Framework drivers loaded on your system.

It stated at the Bigpond site.
Minimum System Requirements for Vista. Microsoft .NET 3.0 Framework must be installed.
and WMP11 make sure your system fits this criteria.

If you need to install Microsoft .NET 3.0 Framework you will find it Here
Scroll down the page to the heading Instrutions for direct download.
You will need to detrmine if you have 32 or 64Bit Vista for the appropriate download.
32 bit=X86 Redist Package
64 bit=X64 Redist Package

I will try to figure out if .NET 3.0 is installed properly - it should come with Vista. That package you suggested is for XP and 2003.

Thanks,
Col.

Re: Bigpond Media Manager fails to start

I went into Control Panel / Programs and Features - and clicked on the 'Turn Windows Features on or off'

There was one .NET 3.0 feature turned on (XPS Viewer) - the other two were not. I turned them on.

It made no difference.

Thanks,
Col.

Re: Bigpond Media Manager fails to start

To see if it's loaded go Control Panel\Programs and Features
Sorry about the wrong link.
Go NET 3.5

Re: Bigpond Media Manager fails to start

It shows up when you go into Control Panel / Programs and Features - and click on the 'Turn Windows Features on or off'

It is installed as part of the OS - according to this person - and won't show up under the programs and features.

I don't want to add 3.5 unless I have to - and I am not getting any error messages suggesting the issue is .NET rlated.

I appreciate the help though - any other thoughts?
Thanks,
Col.

Maybe - The UAC setting upsets Media Manager.
Turn off UAC reboot. And try Media Manager

Re: Bigpond Media Manager fails to start

Just to be clear - within Vista Media center I went into Bigpond movies (skipping the first piece where it tells me I don't have the right software installed) - I log into my account, when I try to download something it goes to a System Check Window with ticks against
.NET Framework
Windows XP Service Pack
Windows Media Player 10+

And a cross next to My Downloads Manager -

It offers a link to download it - when I download it and install it - nothing changes - clearly there is a problem with this download manager!

I will try the UAC later.

Thanks,
Col.
