New Vista Install. Heaps of Online Icons

Hello,

I have just finished a complete re-install of vista. On my previous build, i had MCupdate disabled. Now that it is a fresh build and MCupdate is enabled, I have the sports option and a whole heap of extra icons in the "online/explore". Im on 32bit vista.

I'm not interested in the whole sports section on my main menu. How do I remove that?

Notice also how Mobilewares Big Weather comes under the Sport menu. Should this happen?

Re: New Vista Install. Heaps of Online Icons

Hi drew,

Kind off. Those threads are more for application design. All i wanna do is remove the sport Strip. Obviously it's more complex than I thought.

I wonder if setting my region setting back to Australia from USA will help?

Re: New Vista Install. Heaps of Online Icons

Changing the region might remove it. It does seem difficult to remove, and I don't think the old Registry values work in VMC anymore as they do in MCE2005.

thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/155119.aspx

In the meantime, maybe try MCEcustomiser for Vista?

I haven't seen references to it much at all, but I'll keep looking.

Re: New Vista Install. Heaps of Online Icons

Have a look at this post for how to remove the sports strip.

Note: The online spotlight apps may not work (Im not sure) after you remove the sports strip. If so, you may want to flip it back and just live with the sports and the online spotlight apps.

Maybe you could post back and let the forum know if the online spotlight apps still work for you after removing the sports strip.

Cheers

Mike

Re: New Vista Install. Heaps of Online Icons

Wow,

Thats exactly what I am after, Thanks Mike. I will update this thread with the results of applying that fix. I already changed my regional setting back to Australia but obviously this wont revert the sports strip.

It's great to see Microsoft has a presence on these forums. Gives me more confidence in a product when the developers are actively involved with community sites.

A classic example of this NOT being the case is the Nvidia forums. All I read on those forums is complaint after complaint.

Re: New Vista Install. Heaps of Online Icons

Those steps referred to in Mikes link works perfectly.

I still have the online media content, but that doesn't worry me so much. Some of it is accessable, even on my slow 512k link.

I have set all regional settings back to Australia so it will be interesting to see if the Online media content changes back to the Australian content.
