Re: Musical Folders v5.8

Thanks for the update.

I only have 1 small problem, when I try and run V5.8 it starts to connect to the pc then
asks for a user and p/w then when it fails it states the following.

"UNABLE TO DISPLAY PAGE
Media Centre was unable to load page http://localhost/MusicalFolders/Default.aspx.
The server is not responding, or there is something wrong with your proxy server.
Try again later or contact your administrrator for assistance."

The previous version worked fine all I have done since is install a few updates and this new version.

Thanks in advance.

What I have noticed is that it wont work on another box thats is fully updated, whereas on my box which is only partially updated it works well.

The above error occurs on both machines where all current updates are installed.

Hope this helps???????

Re: Musical Folders v5.8

I couldnt wait for an answer from this forum and or the guy who designed this so I did a system restore to previous version and prior to the last lot of updates, I then installed version 5.8 and all is ok.

Anyone else having this issue.

Cheers

Re: Musical Folders v5.8

Can someone please tell me exactly what Musical Folders does that's different/better than the standard MCE My Music. I know it's supposed to be better, but I've never seen any details as to how, nor any screenshots.

I haven't tried it because I don't have a dev box and want to be fairly sure it will be worth the effort first.

Re: Musical Folders v5.8

GlenR i can't give you any screenshots at the moment because mine isn't working after the update, but musical folders basicly is just all you music set as it is on your hard drive. Its like using My Computer to get to your music folder and adding music to play and queue up.
When you launch Musical Folders it goes direct to the folder you specify and then you navigate with your remote and queue up songs and albums you want to listen too.
Deadeye has done a good job to make your life a little easier rather then the standard My Music that doesn't seem to make any sense of your music collection.
You simply place a folder.jpg in each of your music folders so you can see the CD covers as you scan your music.
Anyway i like it and other do also you can download it and try if you don't like it just uninstall it. It is just an add on and doesn't change you MCE configation.

Re: Musical Folders v5.8

I've got the same problem, but I have only recently found this gem of a utility. So, I have not had previous versions. I can't get past the login in screen. I've even tried uninstalling it, and installing ver 5.6, but still gets me the same problem. I don't think I can system restore, since I've had to install IIS and .net ver 2.0.

deadeye - any advice?

Thanks,

Mike from Sugar Land, Texas

Cool Re: Musical Folders v5.8

OK after loads of emails and lots of testing I found out the problem to the password prompt we are all having.
Microsoft released a patch that turns off your Local Intranet settings in Internet explorer if you are not on a domain. It is called IE7.
Quick fix is:
• Open Internet Explorer
• 'Tools' menu -> 'Internet Options' -> 'Security' -> choose the ‘Intranet Zone’ -> 'Sites'
• uncheck the ‘Automatically detect intranet network’ checkbox
The next release will have this done for you on install.
Let me know how you go and if this fixes your problem.

P.S. There is a screenshot up at http://us.ssw.com.au/daniel/Home/MediaCentre.aspx

Re: Musical Folders v5.8

Greetings,

I picked up Musical Folders 6.1 which seems to be the latest available on Daniel's web site.

Anyone has tested this with Vista Ultimate?

Thanks

Re: Musical Folders v5.8

I downloaded, but have been unable to install on Vista. It begins the install process but then as it begins copying files, it then rolls back & I get a fatal error, "Installation ended prematurely because of an error". In the Application Event Log I get an event: Event ID 1033. Installation success or error status: 1603. Hope someone can help. I'm looking forward to using this

pcw_ill,
that is a weird error.

Have you got Microsoft .NET v2 installed?

Re: Musical Folders v5.8

hi all,

first to say hello to this forum ! my 1st posting here.

what is musicalfolders made for? i`m not sure about this.

what i miss in MCE ist to play my music as it is sorted the folders in my PC/HTPC, as i here music since years using windwos-explorer located ih the folders with mp3, sorted alphabetic by foldername. so - now i installed 6.1 musicfolders...hoping the solve this mising in MCE. but:

why no i need IIS ? (was not installed on my HTPC)
why do i need asp.net 2.0 ? (ok - already installed)
i only want to play my mp3 folders (and not to create a webserver or so ... )...and so i understood the intriduction here in this forum.

after installing v6.1, i don`t know what to do with musicalfolders. please give a couple of screenshots to understand this. there must be some of you who have installed it und enjoy it. for me it is not self-declaring what`s the purpose of musicalfolders after installation...sorry dan maybe i`m too old the way you here music today..

so - need some help. thanks a lot

Re: Musical Folders v5.8

deadeye,

is .Net v2 required or will v3 work. Vista installs with v3. I tried installing 2.0 & it tells me 3.0 is already installed. Also during the install of musicalfolders, at the Install prerequisites screen, I get a green checkbox next to microsoft .net framework, so I'm assuming that means that the prerequisite is met? I have tried turning off the UAC feature in vista, but that didn't make any difference. is there an install log that I could look at?

black_bott, musicalfolders will allow you to play your music within media center by using folders instead of microsoft's method of using ID3 Tags. I used it in the past on MCE2005 & it works great, provided your music is organized in folders
