 Musical Folders v5.3

Hey all,

Time for a new version.

I have increased the version number scheme a little. (from 1 to 5) 2 digit version numbers are easier to manage.

Here are the new things in this version:
• Moved to .NET Framework v2.0 (This was a BIG change)
• Rows Displayed is now a setting (You can edit the web.config file to show more than 4 items per line. For those with wide screen)
• Added ogg file format support

Download from http://www.ssw.com.au/daniel/home/MediaCentre.aspx

Re:  Musical Folders v5.3

I haven't tried musical folders yet. What's the main advantage compared to the normal My Music?

Re:  Musical Folders v5.3

Yes i would uninstall the old version before installing the new one. (not sure if it does this automaticaly or not)

The advantage is that it shows your music collection via your folders on your hard drive and not my the ID tags of the songs.

Re:  Musical Folders v5.3

hey dead eye, sorry to be a pain but do you think it's in my settings why it keeps saying that there is an error when my version of music folders keeps getting an error msg at setup?

Re:  Musical Folders v5.3

I would say so.
Open up IE and load up http://localhost/MusicalFolders/Default.aspx
Then add it to your trusted sites.
Also lower your security settings to see if this makes a diffrence.

Re:  Musical Folders v5.3

Man I really hate to sound like a pain but it's still not working. I have tried everything and still nothing. The only thing I can think of is that I started a network between my two computers. I'm thinking about just reformating and getting rid of the network. Do you think that could be my problem?

Re:  Musical Folders v5.3

Hey Guys,

I'm having a problem with v5.3. I've checked some of the previous posts as well, and found some guys had a problem proxy server issues. I've done the "trusted site" thing, and the "clear cookies" as well.
Any other suggestions?

PS! Love the app, and would realy like to use it.

Re:  Musical Folders v5.3

Hmmm, just installed it, looks promising. I can't stand having to view my albums by album name, or search amongst 50 million artists names (due to compilation CD's) to find the artist I feel like listening to.

Two questions:

1. Any ideas if Musical Folders shows up on an Xbox 360 extender?

2. Is it possible for it to replace "My Music", or get it in the root menu?

Stebbo

Re:  Musical Folders v5.3

Dont know about a Xbox extender. Dont have one so i cannot test.

Regarding the My Music on the main screen. Im sure this is posible however i have been unable to find the registry keys or a process on how to acheve this. If anyone knows how i will implement in the next version.

Re:  Musical Folders v5.3

No, it doesn't seem to come through on the xbox extender which is a pity. It's strange - some applications (mceWeather) do come through, some don't. I do however think you're on to a great product deadeye.

Thumbs up Re:  Musical Folders v5.3

Hello Deadeye,
This Media Center addition is fantastic. Before I built my MCE, I used XBMC on the xbox and loved the way it handles browsing folders. XBMC is very efficient and handling large music collections. I was extremely disappointed with the way MCE handled large mp3 collections (50gig for me). Then I came across Musical folders and it gave back some confidence using MCE for MP3's.

I would like to bring to your attention 2 issues I found.

1). If the extension .mp3 was in capitals (.MP3), Musical folders would not recognise it.

2). When using a Harmony 880 remote, the focus on the musical folder is determined by the mouse pointer hiding behind the app. So, the affect is the focus always jumps back to whatever folder the mouse pointer is behind. I get around this by moving the mouse pointer off the screen then going back to Musical folders.
