Deb,

Depends on your AMP what indicators show a 5.1 source. Have a look at the manual, but in essence you are correct.

Not sure about BluRay but DVD audio is AC3 or DTS, more likely AC3, so the same applies to DVD's as does Divx.

When I was fault diagnosing .mkv's I had Media Centre windowed and was watching what was coming across via the FFDShow system tray icons. When you hover the mouse over the tray icons it will indicate what video source and decoder is being used as well as for Audio.

Cheers

Willo

Deb,

In the folder or start menu folder where the red icon for video config is, there is also a blue icon for audio config.

Re: SPDIF out from MB header to optical?

I still couldn't find the settings in ffdshow so I uninstalled it and installed the shark 007 pack. I set everything to SPDIF/passthrough. I am getting good 5.1 from powerDVD, but not from recorded TV shows or vista media centre. It is not getting a the dolby digital signal at all! Also, when a DVD auto plays in Mediacentre with cyberlink PLayDVD I get massive feedback noise from the speakers when the sound comes through. I am worried about damaging the system, it is so loud!!

Deb,

I'm not too sure about the latest Shark Codec pack. I didn't like the newer format and went back to an older version.

when you were using FFDShow, were you using FFDShow-tryouts??

http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

This is the one I have used and it's great.

I just installed it on a mock up machine and it has all of the config options.

Uninstall Sharks and then install this one and follow VLADS config thread.
