Taking the plunge and installing Vista

After many years of using MCE2005, I have decided to give Vista a try. My concern is the amount of hassles people are having with the GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboards. I have one of these with (Rev1.1).

My current setup is working fine, but I think it's time to get with it.

Please put my mind at rest.

Thanks for the vote of confidence

Is there anything "special" that I need to know. I have been perusing the forums and have viewed many user specific problems, which if I encounter will be a huge help.

But, are there any known very common hassles that have krept up?

Cheers
Gareth

No Just keep it simple. Just do a clean install of VMC, Hardware drivers then SP1 and all MS updates. A few people including myself had problems with update KB950126.
refer to Issues with KB950126?

Vista SP1 Australian guide corruption hotfix : http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...do=file&id=182

Install green screen hotfix http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...do=file&id=174

Only install FFdshow for playing AVI and Dvix files.

Any problems you have I'm sure forum members will work through them with you.

Regards Blackjet

Re: Taking the plunge and installing Vista

In MCE2005 we needed to get a decoder like Purevideo or Power DVD, is that necessary in Vista? If so do I need to get a Vista version or would the current version work?

I assume that I would also need to download drivers for my mobo and audio etc for Vista

Thanks again
Gareth

Gareth Vista comes with its own decoder, there is no need to install software like pure video.

You will have to download and install new vista drivers for your MoBo http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2758

I don't necessary agree with this statement, as recently have loaded Cyberlink codec on my Vista partition and PQ was really better.

PQ is in the eye of the beholder.
I do only view VMC on an analog projector. PQ is great on the projector, as for LCDTV I have no idea.

Fair point, I think it would look good on B&W CRT as well

Re: Taking the plunge and installing Vista

Now now you two, lets keep it clean.

I will start of by trying the standard decoder.

Vlad, which version of cyberlink are you running. I have a few HD Dvd's and I believe that the latest version only supports BR. I currently have version 7.3 delux which works well. I am outputing SD TV to a 47" LCD. We have just received HD TV here, but I haven't made the change yet, so SD it is.
I will be connecting my HTPC to my LCD via onboard HDMi.

Thanks for the link to my download site. i have already downloaded the necessary files for Vista as well as Catalyst 8.6, 8.7, 8,8

I am in the trows of making a Ghost boot disk to make images as I go along.

Thanks
Gareth
