Looking to Upgrade

Hi all,

I'm currently contemplating upgrading my current set up.

I've got a 1080i display Hitachi Plasma Tv.

Currently I'm running a DVI-HDMI connection to the TV for Picture and a Coaxial Cable direct from the PC to my Amplifier.

Just wondering how do you go with a Motherboard with HDMI connector, and getting sound to the Amplifier?

I presume a Motherboard with HDMI outputs sound and picture to the TV. Since my amplifier does not have a HDMI connection is there a way to get the sound direct from the Motherboard to the Amplifier and run HDMI to the TV simultaneously.

What's an ideal scenario for running HDMI to the TV, and Digital Audio to an Amplifier that does not have HDMI input or outputs.

The only reason I want to upgrade is to play Blu Ray at 1080i

I presume I need HDMI to be able to play Blu Ray? DVI will not allow Blu Ray right?

Re: Looking to Upgrade

DVI is capable of 1080p thus Blu-Ray is achievable!
Personally I would stay away from on board HDMI as mnay people on here have had bad experiences and many who have test on-board v's via a card would pick the card any time. The only what to split the HDMI to my knowledge is either being able to do it in the software setting for the board (maybe it can turn off the audio signal in the HDMI and activate another digital audio output signal?) or purhase a splitted sold by someone like Gefen or the like.
Do your research as you have stacks of options...

Re: Looking to Upgrade

i think at the moment, you can run most bluray titles through anything. there aren't many that have DRM in them, but they will be coming more and more popular.

just because a computer has a HDMI port doesn't mean you HAVE to use the audio from it. it just shows up as another sound device which you can disable or change the default to the SPDIF or analog outputs.

i used to run HDMI to a Sony Bravia TV but has the same problem with the Amp...i just ran another sound card and used that for the audio.
