The main points of difference to the 780G boards are slightly improved GPU performance (about one third improvement from what I've read) that let you crossfire with ATI 3470 HD video cards, and allows better CPU overclocking via an updated south bridge (not a high priority on a HTPC). Most 790GX boards will have 128MB of GDDR3 SidePort video memory, something that can already be found in some 780G boards.

From the Anandtech report: 'On the audio side, the HDMI interface offers support for 2-channel LPCM, Dolby Digital 5.1, or DTS 5.1. (but) still does not support Multi-Channel LPCM'.
Some manufacturers have mATX boards in the pipeline but at these prices the 780G seems much better value at the moment. Hopefully the price will reduce with time, as with all tech stuff, because this board would make light gaming a palatable option.
