Just Fried my Motherboard. Help me Please

Hello.
Well can't help myself just changed a bios setting in my Asrock 4Core1333-FullHD Mobo. Bios setting for ACPI: Suspen to RAM, set it to AUTO. Repost Video on STR Resume, set it to YES. Rebooted then it didnt post just fried the Mobo, Bad burning smell, No onboard video or pci express video card working..

Ok I would say its terminal.

Now I need to buy a new Mobo. For my other hardware. Intel core 2 duo 2.66ghz CPU

For around $150.00 what should I get that is a good MoBo. I would like to stay with ATI graphics because that is what I have always used and I like it. What boards can i get with sideport memory and HDMI and ATI Chipset.

These are the boards I have been looking at:

Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...e=GA-73PVM-S2H

Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3R : http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...ProductID=2845

Asrock 4Core1600-D800 : http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.as...00P35-WiFi&s=n

Asrock P43Twins1600 : http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.as...l=P43Twins1600

Asrock 4Core1600Twins-P35 : http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.as...0Twins-P35&s=n

ABIT I-N73H Socket LGA775 : http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/mothe...&fMTYPE=LGA775

I don't think any of these MoBo's have side port memory. But that dosent worry me. I will be hooking the board up to a Samsung 40+ " LCD eventually via HDMI So if the onbaord Graphics will not do the job I will Have to Buy a new Video card with HDMI output I assume.

Any Info would be great..Please

Thankyou and Regards Blackjet

Re: Just Fried my Motherboard. Help me Please

From looking at those boards, none of them have an ATI chipset. Also a there is a mix there of ATX and mATX boards.

What do you need? Are you limited to mATX due to your case, or are you able to go for the full ATX?

Re: Just Fried my Motherboard. Help me Please

Thankyou for replying.

My case will take either Matx or ATX.
Yeah I know that the Mobo's are not ATI but I guess I can try Nvidia for the first time. I just hope I will not be let down.

Re: Just Fried my Motherboard. Help me Please

Well, to be honest, I haven't looked much at mobo's recently - I've only been keeping an eye on the new ATI and nividia boards with onboard HD decoding. And from memory these have all been AMD based boards.

Anyway, I've looked at the ones you've linked to, and they all look like they'll do a job for you. Just stay away from the ones with onboard wi-fi, that causes nothing but trouble for signal.

An option might be the new Gigabyte G45 based mobo. It has HD decoding on board, although there hasn't been much feedback here about how well it's implemented.

Thankyou for that info.
I have to go for something a bit cheaper. WAF was pretty bad
when she found out that I killed the Media Centre, she said the MoBo better be cheap or she would just buy a STBox. So I have to keep the cost under $100.00

Re: Just Fried my Motherboard. Help me Please

Personally I'm not keen on Asrock boards. As a system builder I've had to return too many to be impressed by them. Also if I had a board that blew up after a simple BIOS setting change I'd think twice about going down that road again, just my 2c.

If you can go full ATX I like this one by Gigabyte. The cool thing is that it is one of the few boards currently that has 4 Pcie X1 sockets, you could go wild with tuners on this board

Re: Just Fried my Motherboard. Help me Please

Thanks dgaust and mysteron,

I have bought the Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H
So far I like the board only a couple of things to sort out.
I'm using the onboard video, seems pretty good. As an example with my Asrock board with 1250 onboard graphics it stuggled a bit with HD now and then, no isuues with the onbard Nvidia yet!
The only issues so far are I can't get dual displays to work at all and my winfast PxDTV2300H card won't work in the PCI-E 1x slot, I have to use it in the PCI-e x16 slot.

Other than that its going well.

regards
Blackjet

Looks like tho you already bought .. however having done a lot of research into this area lately before buying myself, I settled on the Intel DP35DPM as with its onboard audio supporting DD7.1/DTS passthrough via SPDIF, 3 x PCIE x1 slots, 1 x PCIE x16 - and it works like a charm.

Hope your new board goes well

Re: Just Fried my Motherboard. Help me Please

At the risk of hijacking this thread

Quick question guys, I have this motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R. It has two PCIx16 which change to 2x8 PCI if used under crossfire. If I use single card it works 1x16. Now my question is if I can put a PCIex1 tuner card in this second slot and if this will reduce the bandwidth of the first slot to PCIex8.
thanks
