Hi Guys,
I am gathering parts for my 1st HTPC build, I ordered the GA-MA78GPM-DS2H and a 4850E. I got the motherboard but my local PC shop here in Geelong said its going to be a long wait for the CPU to come in. They suggested I just use the AMD 5000 CPU instead. I want this PC on 24/7 as it will sort of be a server as well for my Xbox 1 in another room. I was attracted to the 4850 due to the low energy/heat positives. Should I wait or go the 5000 for $20 less. Does anyone know of any reputable shops that currently have the 4850E in stock? Super Billing here in Geelong quoted me $90 for the 4850E and $70 for the 5000.
Any recommendations would be great.
Cheers,
Simon.

Goodbye my trusty Xbox 1!
if you want to search in your state, put state:wa (or watever) in the search and it will show you all stores that have it listed with pricing and links. most stores have stock indicators online.
i would personally wait for the 4850e. I have 2 of them and they are great!
my HTPC with the 8200 mobo uses less the 60W of power at the wall when watching HD TV

Thanks for the feedback, I had some time to do a bit more research and found CPL.net.au have a great pricelist online which listed the 4850E for $95...they also had the Antec NSK 480B case I was after so my wife went and picked them up today.....only problem was that now she knows how much they cost!
Simon.

Glad you got it all sorted - enjoy.
Yes, its too late...but she did come back with it and didn't refuse to pay! I just had a look at your media centre setup and thats exactly the setup I am doing.....the HVR2200 is on order....do you recommend it after owning it?
Cheers,
Simon.

What is the difference between 4850e and 5000. Wouldn't the 5000 be better as it is 2.6GHz and the 4850e 2.5GHz. Also the 5000 is cheaper
Hi,
After all the rave reviews on the 4850E due to its low power/heat and performance with bluray media thats what I really wanted. I played my 1st bluray disc today and it looks incredible. The cpu meter was only reading 20% so I think it was worth getting the 4850E. I want this system to run 24/7 so I am happy.
Thanks,
Simon.
