Another Sleep (S3) Issue... Help Please!

I know there are plenty of threads on S3 and I know they are quite hard to figure out, but I thought I would put this one out there and see if I can get a bite or not...

Right... the symptom is that when Sleep is requested, the HTPC powers down and achieves S3 for a second and then restarts. I suspect its hardware related, but I can't find what...

All sleep settings are properly configured to the best of my knowledge....
- Media not being shared... "allowed to sleep"
- MST media sharing is set to "never"
- Performance power configuration being used
- BIOS set to S3
- WOL is not an issue as it won't sleep even with the LAN disconnected
- ICETV guide auto update turned off
- All Windows downloads and guide downloads done - nothing waiting
- Hauppauge MVR2200 TV tuner supposedly supports S3
- Restore after AC power loss - no such thing on this Gigabyte board (GA-EP45-DS5)

Any other suggetions would be greatly appreciated...

Have you tried to disable WOL in the BIOS? Even with LAN cable unplugged there could be some glitch making the system think there's trigger event.

Have been there before http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...er-reboot.html

Definitely look to disable the WOL in the BIOS

Yep, been there done that. This used to be the case on my old ASUS motherboard too and what you have done is exactly how i fixed it then too. I now have a Gigabyte board and things are different. No WOL settings anywhere. All settings are set to S3 not auto or anything of the like. I can turn off LAN 1 or 2 but then it simply doesnt work. Unless WOL settings are hidden somewhere that i cannot find and the manual doesnt declare, this is not the problem.

Does Event Viewer/Windows Logs/System shed any light?

On Gigabyte boards I think it's called something like "PME Wake Up" and it's in the Power Management section of the BIOS.

Thanks but no cigar... tried that one and no good...

I am almost convinced this is hardware as the system achieves S3 for a fraction of a second and then re-starts... I am now trying the painfull elimination of each component one by one... now where to start (?) maybe remove the case first !?

Jaiidan, Have you tried all the items on my list at the start of this thread? I hope at least one of us can have some success...

Re: Another Sleep (S3) Issue... Help Please!

i can get mine to sleep, however the only way i can get it to fire up again is to hit the power button on the chassis.

tapping the keyboard / moving the mouse / hitting the remote won't wake it up.... anyone know anything that will allow hitting the remote to making it wake up, by the looks of it the USB goes to sleep and thats it until you hit the power button.

Re: Another Sleep (S3) Issue... Help Please!

i had a re-read of the MB manual last night and it has jumpers you need to adjust for S1 mode or S3 mode.

This is for USB devices, now hitting the mouse or KB wakes up the PC... have not tried waking the pc with th eremote yet, and i also changed the bios to s3 mode.

You wouldn't be using a case with an in-built receiver, would you? Typically with the receiver modules built into cases you need to connect the case Power button wires to the VFD/receiver module, and then connect the VFD/receiver power switch wires to the mobo. I used to have a Fusion case and initially had the problem you are describing, until I realized that I shoud've RTFM, which had a diagram showing how it was supposed to work .
