After many months, I finally had my vista machine working well - 4 digital tuners, 1 analogue tuner, Blu-ray, sleeping at appropriate times, etc.
Well, two weeks later - disaster.
I was using remote desktop over local network last night and suddenly the machine turned off.
I switched it back on, but all I'm got was power lights & the main case fan running at maximum speed. The OS does not start. I get no picture, so can not get into Bios, the HDD doesn't sound like it's running, but the blu-ray drive will eject the tray, so it must be getting some power.
I pulled RAM, graphics card, TV tuner, HDDs out and tried to start with only essential components, but got no joy. I then reseated all the cards, but still nothing. I didn't remove CPU. I also reset CMOS.
Does this sound like a PSU problem? a motherboard problem? other hardware?
Any suggestions on what to try next?
If I need to get a new box, does anyone have any QUIET Shuttle suggestions(SB83G5M is not particularly quiet)?
if possible, connect another PSU to the computer and see if it turns on.
Try to reseat the CPU (if u haven't already)
If you have more then 1 stick of RAM, try both of them individually.
Removed both/all RAM from the system. Normally if the motherboard has a speaker connected (some have them build onto the mobo) it will give you a warning beep that there is no RAM installed. If you have a speaker connected and you DON'T get a beep, i would say its motherboard.

I have had the exact same problem with my original SB83G5M. I think it's a fried Motherboard. I tried other RAM, Graphics card, HDD and even CPU all to no avail. I tried the shuttle forums for assistance and come up with nothing, I even e-mailed shuttle themselves who just suggested I send it to the closest service department.
In the end I upgraded to the M2000 and put the old one in the cupboard for a rainy day. I was thinking of trying to find one on e-bay to get the Motherboard out of it as I did quite like the unit. The M2000 is a sensatational bit of gear though. Not as quiet as some when the fan kicks up to full speed but acceptable to me.

I thought it might be a dead motherboard. I have removed everything except the processor. I even pulled an old power supply from another computer. Still nothing. I was thinking I'd leave it in the cupboard for a rainy day as well.
