Hi all. Before I start I just want to let you know this is for my new Vista desktop PC and not my media centre. Hope i've put it in the right spot!
Anyway, I have just built my new desktop pc using the Abit Fatal1ty F-190HD. But, I have had many problems with it. First of all, the ATi South Bridge (Chipset) driver on the CD supplied with the M/B will not let me install it and comes up with the error: 'Setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current hardware or software configuration'.
Another error is when I shut down the computer, Vista shuts down but the pc is still running with nothing going on. To turn it off I have to switch off the PSU.
I have tried updating the BIOS from version 12 to version 14, which hasn't fixed it.
Is there something that I've missed in the BIOS settings? Or is it a motherboards fault?
PC Specs:
M/B: Abit Fatal1ty F-190HD
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6550
HDD: Western Digital WD4000AAKS
VGA: Nvidia 8600GTS
PSU: Spire Rocketeer 600W
I'd start by getting the catalyst 7.8 drivers and southbridge drivers from the amd/ati site and install them.
I've had trouble getting it to take the south bridge driver, but when it does it does make everything more stable.
Thanks for the reply.
I've downloaded and installed the southbridge driver and it seemed to have taken it, but I'm still having a problem with the shut down process. It is now shutting down and turning off, but when I go to turn it back on, the system hangs and doesn't do anything.
I assume I don't need the catalyst driver because I've got the 8600GTS. Is this correct?

I am using a SATA dvd burner, and it seems to be working correctly. Have you looked through your BIOS? It could be a setting in there.

Reason: catalyst driver info
You sound like you are having the same issues i'm having with the dvd burner.
I have problems when I come out of sleep mode, and when I turn the pc off and on when the drive is connected. It does look like it's working to start with but once you enter s3 mode everything goes screwy.
Once I disconnect the dvd burner all is well. Give it a try and you might be suffering what I am. I think it's linked to the onboard network card. As network activity hangs when I come out of s3 mode.
Problem Solved! Got a reply from Abit and they told me that my processor (E6550) is actually incompatible with the latest BIOS (14 and backwards). They sent me the Alpha release to the next BIOS and said that it should solve the problems until the next full BIOS is released. I used FlashMenu to install it and so far so good. If anyone is interested in trying, its attached to this post. I take no responsibility if something goes wrong!
That was the reason I picked up the quad core instead of the E6550. I emailed ABIT before I bought it to see if the board supported the FSB1333 chips and never received an answer.
I did read in a review that it could support them through overclocking, but it's good that they are updating the BIOS to support them out of the box.
Don't think I'll touch that BIOS until it's released though. I have mine running perfectly stable at the moment.
Hey dgaust how has your F-190HD been performing?
Could you share your current driver versions etc that you feel give you stability.
I may go down this path with this mobo after all.
Do you have any issues with resuming from standby, and have you tried any overclocking with this motherboard?
Thanks.

ATI gfx drivers and SB600, ATI CCC 7.7 seems reliable, but this issue impacting RS600 based GPU, is a real PITA, ATI have not yet resolved.
No issues with standby, except with the digitalnow DNTV Live! Dual Hybrid PCI-Express S2 dropping out of device manager when resuming from S3 sleep. Workaround is to sleep to /resume from hibernation S4 instead.
Have not tried overclocking, as i only use it for dedicated HD HTPC, and have no need for overclocking.

I'm using the latest drivers from the Abit website (don't know the exact versions) and everything seems to be working well. No issues with resuming from S3 sleep. You have to use the latest BIOS though,
Having a quad core I don't feel the need to overclock And overclocking a dedicated HTPC is probably overkill and certainly not necessary with the latest CPUs.
There are a couple of reviews around on the board that indicate that the overclocking options in the BIOS are minimal.
