Help required - Not MCE related

Last night i decided to add an extra HDD and optical drive to my girlfriends brothers PC.
This PC was working fine up until i installed these 2 items. After installing the HDD and Optical drive windows XP attempts to start up, you see the Windows XP LOGO and loading status bar and for a split second a blue screen of death appears and the PC restarts. I unplugged every thing and only connected the original HDD and optical drive and the same thing happens still. I removed the battery from the motherboard and reset the bios and left it over night.... will try again tonight but i don't believe ill have any luck, i'm really stumped on this one guys.. Both optical drives and HDD's are set up in Master/Slave configuration as well.

Hi eclipz,

Did you remove the power connections as well as the data connections from the new optical drive and HDD, if not do so, check all connections, one may have come loose, also check that the original drives are set as masters. If it fires up then try adding one drive at a time. If it boots with only the two drives in and then refuses to boot with the the third or if it boots with 3 and refuses to boot with the fourth, I would be looking at the power supply, it may not be up to it.

Craig.

Re: Help required - Not MCE related

ey, thanks for your reply. The system specs are as follows:

Intel Celeron D 2.66GHz
1GB Ram
Inno3D Geforce FX5500 128MB
160GB HDD 7200RPM IDE
80GB HDD 7200RPM IDE
2x Liteon DVD-RW IDE
400watt Usicase Powersupply (Cheap)

The system functioned correctly with 1 HDD and 1 DVD drive.

I have tried setting the 160GB HDD to master and the 80GB HDD to slave on IDE1 and on IDE2 i have 1 DVD drive as master and 1 as slave.

I now get bluescreens when only running 1 hdd and no optical drive... I will use the "Last known good configuration" setting tonight to see if that works or even try a windows repair/recovery..

Am i missing some thing?

Re: Help required - Not MCE related

eclipz,

Was just suggesting you check all connections and that when usin the original drives you check they are set as masters as you implied you had been setting the master/slave things when you tried the new drives. also suggesting you ensure that if the new drives are still in the box that all cables to then are discconnected not just data.

Best of luck

Craig.
