Asus M2NPV VM problem

Hi

i have been using this mobo for 18 mths now with no problems. Recently i lost display capabilities - i get the Asus screen then windows splash screen then blank. Audio is ok and i can hear MCE2005 load up.

I have been using DVI output from the mobo - i have tried other outputs VGA/RGB with no luck.

Logic points towards the mobo being the problem - what can i check ? Help....

Re: Asus M2NPV VM problem

Have you updated the BIOS recently? Last time I did that, the amount of memory used by video went back down to the minimum (32MB I think).

Get yourself into the BIOS & adjust the video memory up to a more reasonable level.

While your at it, make sure you've got the latest BIOS (which I'm pretty sure is 1201). Updates available at ASUSTek.

Re: Asus M2NPV VM problem

most graphics card vendors have an emergency fix disk where is reflashes the graphics card to a usable state. You simply make the floppy and reboot the pc and boot form it.

its caused by the BIOS being corrupted (this was caused by power outage usually).

Have had this happen with matrox graphics cards, might be worth a try.

Re: Asus M2NPV VM problem

F8 before the Windows splash screen & try VGA mode (or similar) - that resets the display driver to the lowest resolution setting.

AdrianW

You're going to have to hit F8 just a little later (I'm not kidding - for some stupid reason Asus made F8 the key for the boot menu........ exactly the same as the Key the Windows advanced boot menu has used for years ).

I seem to remember having the same problem - I used the "Asus Update" program which can updaet the BIOS from within windows (that probably doesn't help you if you can't get into windows).

You should still be able to increase the amount of memory used for video (it's somewhere in the BIOS settings).

Once you've managed to get into windows, you could then update the BIOS from there.
