Unhappy Dead Socket 939 Mobo... I think

Alright I have been lucky with motherboards in that I have never had one die, its just been retired.

Here is my issue.

Dropped a 4200X2 and a 3850 onto the board, a ABit An8 ultra.

It had 1GB ddr 400 Ram.

It also has 3 sata drives and a tv tuner.

ok so 3850 said it needed a 500 watt PSU, I only had 450 but it was fine.

Now I started getting intermittent faults where I would have to clear cmos to keep booting and blue screens etc. so I thought 3850. SO I put 6600gt back on board and still same issue. unplugged all drives bar boot drive still got issue.

Now I have to clear cmos everytime to get it to boot and now it won't even see the sata drives plugged in.

Could a bad CPU be causing this or does this have all the hallmarks of a dying motherboard and if so anyone got a socket 939 they no longer use

I debated whether or not a good upgrade (which this was was running crysis on medium and some high) was the go or a fresh start.
