How much RAM required on Gigabyte GA-M52S-S3P

I have just upgraded my motherboard to a Gigabyte GA-M52S-S3P with a AMD X2 400+ CPU and Geforce 7300GS video card.

I get a few very short gitches in the sound and picture on live TV on my XBox 360 which is connected by ethernet. I have a 3 x Compro tuners.

Do you think 1GB of RAM is enough or could that be what is causing the glitches.

Recorded TV seems to be OK.

Regards Bob

Hey there

IMO 1GB should be enough for your system - 2GB recommended for VMC.

Check what else is running at the same time as your glitches - maybe try updated drivers for your mobo and/or bios update too

Cheers

Hi J,

I checked my drivers for the network etc and they were all good.

The only glitches were on live TV via the XBox360, TV was fine in my theatre direct from the PC.

I have fixed the problem by reducing the network speed to 100 Mbit duplex rather than let it negotiate the speed from 10/100/1000 Mbit.

My old system was max 100 Mbit and worked fine. If I want to use 1000 Mbit maybe I will need more RAM, but it is all good now.

RAM is so dirt cheap at the moment why not stick in the max. 32bit vista can handle 3GB.

Re: How much RAM required on Gigabyte GA-M52S-S3P

Reducing the ethernet speed wasn't a cure. Live TV continued to glitch and the step forward for ad skipping was really bad. The first press skipped back to the previous ad break and then it took heaps of presses to get to the end of the next break - weird.

The motherboard has dual channel memory and although the memory usage appeared under 50% I put in a matching stick of 1GB. This appears to have fixed all the problems.
