Installing Viiv on G33 Chipset on XP MCE - No go - Absolute Joke

Gday,

Just wondering if anyone can enlighten me on the following situation:

I have an Intel DG33TL mainboard, E6750 CPU and 640GB Raid using ICH9R with NCQ. All these components are Viiv certified and basically should work ok. However, to use the G33 chipset you must use version 1.7 of the Viiv software, which you can download and upgrade your existing full installation of version 1.5. But the catch is you cannot install 1.5 because it doesnt support the chipset. But wait it gets better, you cannot download a full version of 1.7 anywhere off Intels website. But it gets even better, 1.7 doesnt support XP MCE!!!! I have not seen an updated Quick Resume driver post 1.5 either.

Viiv Check utility is no longer available on the Intel website so i have a suspicion that perhaps there is a version 2.0 in the works, but even intel dont have an eta.

Ive logged a case with intel but this is just a damn joke. The ViiV software does not come on the provided mainboard CD, and it is part of their "media" series boards, flouting how wonderful Viiv is.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do?

Im not about to ditch the mainboard - its a killer board for $150 with heaps on internal USB ports (quad internal usb tuners!) and it has RAID, supports 1333MHz FSB, has inbuilt DVI (although I have a 6600GT in atm) and fits inside my Coolermaster CM Media 260 case.

There is not a chance im going to Vista as Ive heard too many problems about it and Im not forking out $200 on the chance Im going to be dissapointed.

Anyone else travelled this road before?

JK

Re: Installing Viiv on G33 Chipset on XP MCE - No go - Absolute Joke

I have no experience with viiv as I am currently building my first standalone HTPC.
I have the following parts and awaiting mobo and case as of time of posting.
Intel E6300
Intel DG33TL Mobo
2x1gig of Corsair value select DDR2 667
Samsung 500G SATA
Antec NSK 2480B
MCE Remote
DNTV Live single PCI tuner
MCE2005 OS

Future upgrades include:
DNTV Dual hybrid TV tuner
HDDVD or BD drive/s
2400, 2600, 8600 video card.

I hope the systems works as I hope.
I will be outputting to a Sanyo Z3 PJ, Denon Amp for 5.1 surround via Optical out, and a 15" LCD As a front end display when not wanting the PJ on..ie music playback etc.

I picked this board over the Abit Fatal1ty F-190HD, Gigabyte GA-G33M-S2H and GA-G33M-S2, and hope it will do what I need. I wont be Overclocking, or playing Video games on this HTPC.

I reckon its a top looking mainboard. I am also running the Corsair ram now too.

I'll keep this thread posted with my findings!

I had the same VIIV issue, and a google search revealed that Intel believe only OEMs will be creating VIIV systems, therefore only OEMs have the software needed.

I also found a link to Gateway's website, who have the full VIIV v1.6 software for download. You can then upgrade to the 1.7 release on Intel's website.

When I rebuilt my PC, I never bothered to reinstall VIIV software as it (in my opinion) added no value whatsoever.
