Asus M2NPV-VM Audio Problem

Ok, first I'd like to admit that I've got a plain XP home edition not media center [don't hit me], but I've got one problem with it :/

I installed the Soundmax Adi1986a Chipset drivers from the mainboard bundled cd and after rebooting I get sound only from the right speaker, I can't get left to work even after installing the latest drivers from asus homepage, I checked the audio settings and they're ok, can you tell me what to do in this case ?

Cheers

Re: Asus M2NPV-VM Audio Problem

Try a different set of speakers - unless you're sure they definitely both are in working order.

If this persists and you';ve checked the system sound settings then sounds like a motherboard hardware fault - so return to your vendor.

Re: Asus M2NPV-VM Audio Problem

On the M2NPV-VM that I used to have, analogue sound was pretty poor (crackly & popping with video in full screen). I ended up using an old PCI sound card to get good sound. I have my doubts about the SoundMax chip - it caused me other problems too (non MCE). Glad I've gone back to Realtek on my new board.

I have to agree with you too
Buying a new soundcard sounds better than fighting with this chip ;p

Lightbulb Re: Asus M2NPV-VM Audio Problem

I had trouble with vista my last time around - downloaded the latest drivers from asus and everything seems peachy but it's only been 10 minutes so far. This is the first time i've had problems with this board and audio but every board i've had for the last 3 or 4 systems i've considered my own have all needed a soundblaster because of the onboard crap-out plague. and always nforce boards, jeesh =-(

I really don't wanna throw another card in this guy cause it'll be cramped (I might wanna use them pci's for like i dunno, robotic limb controllers for my artificial bartender); it's not a media center for me anyways.
