Finally got around to replacing the battery holder

Have finally got around to replacing the battery holder on one of my Motherboards. It wasn’t that difficult. If anyone is going to try this, here is what I did. Made sure the soldering iron was at it’s hottest, put a slight bit of tension on the battery holder adjacent to one of the pins with long nose pliers. I then pushed the iron onto the top of the pin for a couple of secs and the holder popped out. Did the same to the other side. No solder went anywhere so I didn’t have to use a pump. Got another battery holder from an old motherboard Made shore the pins lined up. You won’t be able to insert it because the solder will be in the holes, so do one at a time. Line the pins up and push the iron onto the bottom of the hole keeping a bit of pressure on the holder. The pin will pop through. Do the same to the other side. I was very surprised I didn’t have to use any silver solder or the pump. Now it is working fine with my WHS.

Re: Finally got around to replacing the battery holder

Hi Chris,

Good to hear that it went well.

Hopefully others might be encouraged to have a go if they're in the same boat. Where did you end up getting the replacement battery holder from? An old board?

Justin
