I am thinking of building a new HTPC using the ASUS M2NPV-VM however was just wondering if anyone can recommend where i can get the Digital Audio Connector (SPDIF) in Perth or on the Internet?
In Perth would be better as I dont want to pay lots for shipping.
Thanks,
Fraggle.

There's a post in here by a guy saying he got it through a local distributer for $16....I have PM'd him but no reply yet.
Once again....I think Asus need a good kicking for not including an SPDIF out header as standard on this board that they SPECIFICALLY designed for HTPC use!
Just seems they've gone out of their way to be annoying and make things more $$$ and difficult than need be!
I mean just look at all the posts on folks finding hassles with this!

Thanks for the pointer. I have ordered one from them and may use them again in future.
Nikko,
You are not wrong, it is really poor that ASUS do not include these in with the MOBO. I don’t mind that it keeps the price down for people not using SPDIF but ASUS should ensure distributors have then available!
Who was the local person that got a connector in Perth?

I made one from an old cdrom audio cable and a $0.60 connector from DSE. It works great and doesn't take up a PCI slot, I mounted it in a vent hole on the back of the case.
I didn't think it would work because the official Asus pcb one requires 5 volts but from what I can tell it's only to power the LED on the board! I have used this cable on different motherboards not just Asus and it has worked on all of them, I think it's because they all have a Realtek sound chip onboard.
cheers

I've thought out loud that this might work in other posts - glad to hear that it's confirmed!
I think the 5V (& the majority of the board) is for the optical connection (converting the signal to optical).
The chip on the board is a SoundMAX one (not that it matters), & it does all the digital work with the board providing conversion to optical only.

I have just been looking through my old parts and manuals and noticed that an old "SPDIF in and out" may fit the new "SPDIF out" socket.
The pin config for SPDIF out and ground are next to each other on both plugs so it may be possible to get it to fit. I will give it a try and report back.
