Full ATX mobo with onboard GPU & rear SPDIF?

Hi all,

I am searching for a full ATX sized motherboard with the following characteristics:

* must have onboard audio of HD Audio quality or better & rear SPDIF out (don't want to have to buy the extra rear connector!)

* Would prefer it to have onboard GPU either nVidia 6150/6100....IDEAL if it had component video out!

I am OPEN to the socket type....as I am still choosing my CPU (waiting for a bargain on Ebay!) - so if I can find the right motherboard it would make things easier.

If you don't have the exact match I will happily accept your best available suggestion.

Thanks again, Nikko

PS To complicate things my displays best input is component video - so my best options....I assume are something that ouputs component signal OR using a VGA d-sub to RGBHV cable (as my telly will take the HV signal as well!)....thanks guys!

Hi Nikko,
This board from Asus:
http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?m...&l2=101&l3=492

Has a s/pdif out built into the rear i/o panel. It is coaxial. It doesn't have integrated video, but i'd wager finding a board with integrated spdif is much harder than finding a suitable video card. I don't believe this board is available in Oz yet though.

Now, if only i could find a mAtx board with built in spdif/out on the rear panel! Or a mAtx board with a low profile spdif bracket. The Abit NF-M2 would be perfect for me but can't find it in Oz!!

G'day Nikko.

I use the DFI Infinity C51PV-M2/G. It has the integrated graphics (svideo, RGB, DVI) as well as Spdif out.

Nintek sell it for $160, so it is well priced in my opinion. Link

This board also worked very well in Vista, when i had RC1.

Only problem for you is that is isnt full ATX, but when running a PCIe TV tuner, like the Cinergy, you only use the one PCIe 16x slot. As a dedicated HTPC motherboard, I recommend it.

One thing - the 6100 won't cut it, but the 6150 will. Look at http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...therboard.html

You beat me to it. And SPDIF is coax out, not optical. And wireless needs a high gain antenna.

Other than that, it's great.

THINKS: I shoulda just bought a plain MOBO and plugged in the proper stuff

When i first found this board it was perfect for me, until i read the obscure size it comes in. Slightly larger than mAtx. Arrgh.

Re: Full ATX mobo with onboard GPU & rear SPDIF?

Cheers for the suggestions....looks like the Asus M2NPV-VM is the best of the options, but gee it ****s me that you have already paid $130 for the board and have to pay another $35 or so for the rear SPDIF connector interface - thats shoddy!

I wonder if using a vga/d-sub to RGBHV cable would provide as good a picture as straight component video???? As my TV can take an RGBHV signal in...has the extra HV inputs.

What do you guys think? I'd say the 6600GT would be as good or prolly better than the 6150.

That'd mean I could use an old 6600GT I have lying around and just look for a full ATX sized motherboard with a rear SPDIF interface included, which would be easier and cheaper.

.
Absolutely- my previous box ran a 6600GT AGP that gave stable, quality images.

Re: Full ATX mobo with onboard GPU & rear SPDIF?

It depends on what you want to do with it... The 6150 is the lowest supported board from nvidia for all its deinterlacing stuff - the 6600 is having problems in Vista, Nvidia have not released full driver support for all their cards as yet...

I would not both replacing the 6150 with a 6600 just for MCE. If you go down this path, why not try out what comes on the board first, and if neccessary upgrade later to a 7 or 8 series or something... but the 6150 despite its lower number than 6600 is a better card for MCE. BTW do not even attempt to go down the path of getting a motherboard with 6100 - its not as good!
