Well Ive allways wanted one so I decided to buy one for my new Dual core Media Center, first thing I noticed was the fins on the side of the hard drive ( used to get rid of the extra heat created by the high speed drive ). I then noticed that this drive is damn loud.. Its not a quiet hard drive.. No loud whirrrRRrring noise but sounds sorta like a 10 year old 4 GB drive.. when accessing data it makes a bit more noise than my 320GB drives.
Performance: Its not massive we are not talking twice as fast as your normal 8mb cache 7200rpm hard drive so dont buy one expecting it to boot up in 5 seconds becuse it wont.
What it will offer you however is a faster boot than your 7200rpm hdd and a much faster access time, i noticed this straight away. Opening programs is extreemly fast compaired to my old 7200rpm hdd.
Performance in MCE: Its good, I have the OS on it so it loads much faster ( how often do you turn your MCE off however ) and the other thing to consider is this.. You only have say 30GB space after you install your OS and your software/drivers.. you cant exactly store videos on it becuase it will fill up very fast!
At the end of the day i got one simply to try it out.. If I could go back I would go back and spend that money on a 320GB drive for the same price.
If you want performance then get two and run a raid on it.. And then my friend.. you will be the one!!
