Microsoft MCE remote and Media Portal

Hi,

I am in the middle of setting up my genuine Microsoft MCE remote and have been able to do the necessary so that the 'Green Button' brings up Media Portal. I have also been able to 'map' the majority of the commands/buttons that I need.

It was necessary to copy the proper keymap.xml file to MediaPortal/Data as the one with the RC3 version is flawed (practically non-existant in fact). I have also installed MPTray so that Windows Media Centre does not start with the 'Green Button'.

One problem though. The 'OK' and 'cursor' buttons on the remote do not work.

According to

http://www.team-mediaportal.com/manu...e/MicrosoftMCE

these buttons cannot be re-mapped (I don't want to, and haven't tried) as they are handled by the operating system. So why aren't they working on my remote?

Any suggestions? please.

Cheers

Re: Microsoft MCE remote and Media Portal

Hi pommieb'st,

I'm running RC3 and found the MCE just worked. No need to do any mapping, as I just selected it via configuration.

I haven't bothered making any changes to get the green button to bring up Media Portal.

Regards.

Re: Microsoft MCE remote and Media Portal

the MCE remote works out of the box in media portal, the only thing i can think of is that somewhere during the mapping of the other buttons something has gone awry.

Re: Microsoft MCE remote and Media Portal

mediaportal needs to be "run as administrator" under Vista (despite the fact that the account you are using may already have admin rights). If not, the windows media center services are NOTshutdown (as they should be) when you run mediaportal therefore interfering with the up down left right ok (cursos) keys of your remote AND of your regular keyboard. Check the log files C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\login\MediaPortal.log and search for "keymap.xml". Just above the first instance you will see the corresponding error message if you do not use "run as administrator" for running mediaportal.

Hey, read a few ways to remap "The Green Button" and was wondering which way you used?

I need to do this on my Dad's HTPC / Media Keyboard.

Re: Microsoft MCE remote and Media Portal

In the end I decided to use Intelliremote which was easy to map TBG to bring up MP as an application.
