just wanted to say a quick kudos on the app... amazing effort. Id be interested to know how it works, but i can understand youd like to keep your tricks to yourself
Cheers The way it works is no secret - the app is based on posts like these: http://blogs.gotdotnet.com/astebner/...04/689085.aspx http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...tart-menu.html (originally posted on TGB)
Also, I did some research of my own into what was possible. What this boils down to is updating xml resources within c:\windows\ehome\ehres.dll and setting a bunch of registry keys to get the menus to do what you want.
The actual application is a WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) application.
Version 0.3.1 is ready for download. There are a couple of new features in this release that required some changes to some of the fundamental code, so forgive me if i've reintroduced a few bugs. Here's the link:
(Hopefully) Fixed the bug that was stopping people with non-english versions of Vista from saving.
Added the ability to add new entry points and edit existing ones. Adding new entry points only requires that you enter a title, path, arguments and an image - the app is (optionally) automatically wrapped so that it behaves well with Media Center.
Added the ability to add game entry points. This is a simplified version of creating new entry points which only requires you to select a game - the rest is automatically configured. The selection of games is the same as that available from Vista Games Explorer. After they are created, game entry points are edited the same way as normal entry points.
Added the ability to delete existing entry points.
Several other minor UI tweaks.
As always, you use this at your own risk - I take no responsibility for any consequences of using it (unless they're good).
cheers for teh info advent... Im not planning on writing anything, I just liek to know how stuff works!! The registry is such a powerful repository of functions... a few letters and numbers here and youc an totally enhance your vmce experience...like the payTV+digital mix stuff. I giggle at those 'Mac vs PC' ads where they poke fun at windows reg... its proven quite useful IMO!
It might help if someone that is having this problem could upload/send me their ehres.dll file. At least then i'd have something to test with, rather than making guesses all the time.
