Re: XP Media Center Extender

Won't happen is my guess. Their was a software-based Extender for PCs (codenamed SoftSled) but that is up in the air and unlikely to happen as MS want us to buy their xbxo 360's and if they release a software solution, companies like Linksys will be a tad annoyed as they have invested in making extenders of their own. If we could simply install a software package why buy anything else?

I for one can't wait for my Xb0x 360, literally as I am looking to import

Once these get down to the $250 mark (in 3-4 years) Then I will prob buy another one and start extedning around the house. One MCE PC can have up to 5 extenders connected to it. Drop in 5 TV cards and a load of storage and everyone will be able to tune HD TV and watch/listen look at everything on the computer.

Re: XP Media Center Extender

exactly , roll em out all round the house.....

What about selling MCExtender as an ADD ON for xp .. so .......................

you buy the software extender for a significant amount like $200.

that way the hardware people couldnt complain , and really , if would be very conveinient to have an extender that you can have anywhere , on your wireless laptop.

Re: XP Media Center Extender

So is there a demand for a 'software' Extender for MCE.

I am Beta testing some UK software that may allow me to create an MCE Extender software app.

What would people pay for it? I would need to invest about $1,000US for the software, so if there are enough people out there prepared to pay for it, it may be a possibility. I am not in it to make a profit, but I would obviously need to pay for my investment.

Re: XP Media Center Extender

i am sure that if you charged $5 a pop for it , you would easily sell more than enough copies to get back your investment worldwide

Re: XP Media Center Extender

Not much info yet, usual NDA stuff. They do software for creating your own apps for home automation and the like and they have made a committment to look at integrating MCE into their UI.

They are looking at providing full access to all the Extender functions, so if that happens it 'should' be fairly easy to create a stand alone exe that provides the functionality required.

However there is no time line yet, so don't get too excited, it may take 6 weeks or 6 years. You know how it is with software

Nice to hear! Ignore posts that recomend you tack $5 per, If it was me I'd be looking more at making a profit than just breaking even, A price per single license should be in the $120 to $220 range. You might even look at embedding the software in a hardware device with XP embedded.
As there is no competition charge whatever you like, but please please beta test it to death first! You can always change the pricing later.

In short DON'T sell yourself short. Greed is good!
