Microsoft & Hauppauge Announce UK Freeview PC Solution
Microsoft and Hauppauge announced today that the two firms have teamed up to bring UK viewers the first Free-view certified Pc solution. The new device will allow UK viewers to watch Freeview programming on their PC.
Microsoft says that Windows Media Center, found on all Vista Premium and Ultimate PCs, will now offer users in the UK interactive and enhanced TV along with PVR functionality. Microsoft is mum on the form factor used for the device. A USB tuner is likely and an add-in card version wouldn’t be out of the question.
“The launch of our Freeview-enabled solution is a great addition to Windows Media Center, allowing us to reach more users and add real value to TV consumers and broadcasters,” said John Curran, director, Windows Client Group, Microsoft UK. “We are dedicated to improving Windows Media Center for customers worldwide, and this addition of Freeview as a platform and brand will offer a real benefit to our partners and consumers. We see this as a critical step to building awareness and setting a standard for great TV experiences on the PC.”
