TV Manager Add-in for WHS (Beta)

TV Manager is a new add-in for WHS and Media Center that copies your recordings off your VMC to your WHS for storage and management. It comes in two parts. Part One, is installed on the server for management of the Recordings. Part Two, is the Media Center (Vista only) plug-in that copies new recordings over to the WHS deleting the original. It also allows you to watch the recordings like you normally would via 'recorded tv'.

The Media Center plug-in deploys using the console add-in. After clicking the deploy button, on the client install \\SERVER\Software\TVManager_MC.msi

Features:
  • Moves the recordings to your WHS for storage, management, and later viewing.
  • Allows you to watch the recordings in Media Center as if they were on that PC's library.
  • You can delete recordings via Media Center or the Console.
  • You can even watch the recordings in other media programs (that support dvr-ms) via 'C:\Users\Public\Windows Home Server\'
  • It is and always will be Freeware

Known Issues (to be fixed in beta 2):
  • Does not work with Lifextender if it is set to Automatically detect new recordings.
  • Only works on Vista.
  • Does not work with Scheduled recordings.
  • May stop moving files if Media Center is closed after recording.
  • Deleting recordings from Console require a restart of Console for changes to appear.

The add-in is in beta (Beta 2 due out within the next 24 hours) - any adventurous souls interested in giving it a go and reporting back?

Re: TV Manager Add-in for WHS (Beta)

If you have two media centers can they both have their recordings copied to the WHS PC and then each access all the recordings via Recorded TV?
Another thought is that if all the recordings are moved to WHS do they still show up in Recorded TV on an Xbox360 extender, or any other extender for that matter?

Good Q....I second the extender and multiple Media Centre issues....also is there any parental controls that can be set for this media?

Re: TV Manager Add-in for WHS (Beta)

@ Mysteron, yes, the programs are moved (from any pc running the client of TV manager) to the WHS and then can be watched from any of those machines. I currently have it working on 2 VMC's (32) and one XPMCE. You can see the recordings on an extender (360 in my case), but cant play them at this stage - the creator is working on this. There is also a bug at the moment (also being worked on), where VMC can't download the latest guide data (although there is a temporary workaround). XPMCE's are able to download the data properly.

At this stage the WGS forum (WeGotServed - http://www.wegotserved.co.uk/forums/...?showforum=105), seems to be the place were all the discussion is happening.

It is currently in beta 3 release and Brent seems to be putting a lot of time getting it sorted. If you are happy to live with the bugs in the mean time, it actually works really well.

Re: TV Manager Add-in for WHS (Beta)

Unfortunately not being able to play the files from an Xbox360 is a deal breaker as this is my main TV device at the moment. Hopefully this will be sorted in a future build then I look forward to giving it a try.
