Vista MC :: Xbox360 Patch Released

Just received a note from a Media Center enthusiast in Germany advising that the Xbox360 50mhz HD issue has now been resolved following the release of Vista update 950125.

The problems which have been addressed occurred when using an Xbox 360 console as an extender for Vista Media Center.

• This update addresses a picture quality issue that occurs when you use Media Center Extender on an Xbox 360 console that has a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connector to the TV for video and a Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format (S/PDIF) connection to the audio device for audio.

• This update addresses an issue in which the Media Center Extender stops responding (hangs) when you play a large non-WMV video over an HTTP session.

• This update provides support for 50Hz output together with better quality for HD models. This feature applies primarily to regions that use the PAL video standard.

Interesting. I am surprised that a software fix on the HTPC can fix 50Hz HD output on the X360.

From the notes, it's not clear to me that the issue is fixed for older X360s with only component HD output.

I don't use my X360 anymore. I think the same goes for most users on here who had put a priority on 50Hz - lots of Linksys extenders have been bought. So is there anyone left who can verify the fix?

I was too at first, but it kinda makes sense: Two new updates for Media Center

Works fine for older component based models as well.

All I can say is AMAZING!! - and about time.

I was watching TV and I thought I was going crazy for a minute, things panned so smoothly, I was then watching financial news with a ticker and it was perfectly smooth!!...I go WTF??!??

I press display info on my TV remote - lo and behold 1280x720 50hz...

HAHA, JOY !

Anyone noticed that this fix has caused (as far as i can tell) a broken white dotted line on the bottom left of the broadcast of some channels? Not a huge deal, but annoying nonetheless.

That'll be the wide screen signalling data which is usually only on 10SD. It's usually masked, so it seems odd that they've removed the masking.

I'm thinking perhaps they reduced overscan?

Sounds like it.

I have a whacky theory...... The format for TV files is changing from DVR-MS to WTV (with the VMC update due out later in the year), so maybe WTV is still overscanned/masked, but DVR-MS is being treated like plain MPEG2? If you convert 10SD to a plain MPEG2 & then play it back in VMC, you see the white dots.

Just a thought.
