I can't get SageTV to run on it. Tried both standard and WHS versions, but they both stop when you try to tune live TV.

Re: Microsoft Releases Vista's Successor, And It's FAST

I have installed on 2008 server everything I would normally on my workstation and running it for several days.
It is really fast and stable, I can run virtually tens of applications, and BioShock and some other high resource consuming games. It handles it with ease and as light as without any load.
The hardware I run it on:
ASUS P5KC mobo
Q6600 CPU
4 GB 800 RAM
150GB SATA2 HDD - OS
RAID - Supertrack 8350 - 8x300GB HDDs
Video - GeCube 3870 - 512MB DDR4
It just goes, no matter what. My 2005 MCE computer is OK to browse folders on it and file transfer is fast.
I will install VMC instead of MCE this weekend and see if slow thumbnails problem is gone.

No it is not. you have to disable IE security. Go to Server Manager/Security Information/ Configure IE ESC and setup to Off.

I installed and configured it tonight and I have to admit it seems to be more responsive than vista. I'm going to load a up a few games and see if they perform any better than on vista.

Only problem I have found so far I should have though of before I installed it is that AVG Free does not work on server platforms. I've installed ClamAV which seems to be working fine.

It is strange, but I feel the same.

Re: Microsoft Releases Vista's Successor, And It's FAST

Just built mine and very happy. It performs great, but i'd expect that on a Q9300 with 8gb ram.

even with the tweaks to make it more workstation like it still misses some of the features i've come to expect from a desktop / vista.

for some reason windows media player media sharing is disabled in server 2008 - which made it easy to stream mp3's off the media centre. Also the nice shell feaures like 'play all' if you open a folder with mp3's - not sure if this is just a tick box I have yet to find though.

Also I cant sleep / hibernate the machine - not sure if theres a tweak out there to enable that yet - but I use hibernate a lot usually.

Vista SP1 and Server 2008 are identical at the core. You can make vista perform very well for your purpose if you just disable a few of the heavy services like search..

I heard about this news. It is the great effort of Microsoft. I installed this version and it runs very fast. It is very helpful to me.
