Alienware's New 4TB Home Server

Alienware has unveiled a high-definition media server, targeting homes with terabytes of digital content storage.

Systems integrators, distributors and even home builders can now join the Alienware Digital Home Channel Program to become an authorised reseller of the media server. The Alienware High Definition Media Server integrates with home entertainment systems to create a centralised source for the storage, retrieval and distribution of digital content.

Offering up to 4TB capacity, the server can store a lifetime's worth of digital movies, music, photos and more, all of which can be sent to multiple points throughout the home. Users can stream files wirelessly or via a home network to any computer in the house, while an array of audio and video outputs deliver limitless possibilities.

This server actually runs Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate, which should provide greater digital media experience with Media Center, but allow for the great automated backup and security features and remote access available with Windows Home Server.

Main Features:
  • Up to 4 TV Tuners
  • Rack mountable
  • Up to 4 terabytes of hard disk drive storage - (Standard 250GB x 4 with 250GB Reserved for OS partition in RAID 5 - Optional 4TB with 1TB Reserved for OS partition in RAID 5)
  • 7.1 Optical Audio output (Toslink)
  • Dolby Digital 7.1 pre-amp output, with digital audio out (Coaxial and Optical)
  • Home automation ready with Lifeware software.
  • 4 Hot-swappable easy access front panel hard disk drive bays.
  • High-Definition Digital Video Recorder for recording and playing back your HD content (up to 1080p) via an HDMI output.
  • Blu-ray read and write optical drive.
  • Internal Cable Card port (OCUR).
  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN with Load Balancing

Hmmm, says "Coming Soon" on the Australian web site so that means it will eventually be available in Australia which is good... it'll be interesting to see the pricing when it does come available...

It's Alienware, so it'll likely be about 20-30% more than it really should be....

I hope to be pleasantly surprised, but highly doubt it.

Well, I certainly wouldn't need those OCUR tuners, but if they replaced them with something else you never know.... but you do pay a fair premium for Alienware gear.

This looks awesome to me!

Here's hoping this comes to Aus before my XPMCE gives out...

Does this mean if you have more than 4TB in your server your life is over

Am I on borrowed time?

Craig.

Burgulars will love it, because even though it is 20-30% larger, its far less bulky to carry than your entire DVD/CD collection

Lighter too
