LiveStation - Microsoft’s Answer to Joost

Microsoft Research has teamed up Skinkers Limited to offer live broadcasting of television on your computer by means of a p2p network. The service uses Silverlight, Microsoft’s answer to Adobe’s Flash, to playback the content on the broadcasted channels. “Imagine your audience being able to watch your live TV content at their desktop, at the airport, at home and in fact, anywhere they can get an Internet connection to their PC! Imagine a quality image with no buffering or stopping! Imagine the possibilities of being able to allow your audience to 'click' on a TV advert exactly as they do on the web but while watching your existing TV channels. All without having to change your current business processes in the slightest!” Let’s hope when the two go at it, they’ll not only be fighting for picture quality and reliability but for less advertisements as well. The beta program will start fairly small, but all requests will be considered as more testers are needed.

sounds good web TV is the future damnit ! One day we'll all be sitting around laughing at our reliance on TV stations deciding content schedules. If we want to watch we should be able to watch it ! Not wait for it to be put on TV/make it on DVD/ or have to get a pirate copy. I dont mind paying a (reasonable) fee as long as you get full control of content. I absolutely DESPISE foxtel etc for the cleverly constructed 'packages' ... I'd like to choose specific *shows* and events not just channels with hours of crap and repeats.

Im not sure about Joost, but Im guessing LiveStation will be supported within the MCE environment, which is always a bonus

Thumbs up Re: LiveStation - Microsoft’s Answer to Joost

Bring it on...although Aus I am sure will lag behind. It is interesting that Joost, MS, Bigpond, Ch7,9,10,SBS...and abc to a lesser extent are now in competion with each other. The other big competion in this space is becoming the web and the Games arena, they are all now vying for mainstream lounge room entertainment. If you don't belive that games are check out GAMER REVOLUTION on ABC http://www.abc.net.au/tv/guide/netw/...007T214000.htm.

Very astounding stuff to those who don't play Video Games unlike I am sure most of us here do, howerver still has some astounding info and a good take on the industry. I never knew South Korea were so connected and Games crazy!!

Re: LiveStation - Microsoft’s Answer to Joost

LiveStation *isn't* a Microsoft product. Skinkers are a separate company who licensed some MS technology to help build their (very cool) application

See Steve Claytons blog for more info.

I've been playing with LiveStation for some weeks now and LOVE being able to watch the BBC News24 live (especially as one of my friends works on-air and I've never been able to see them "at work" before!)
