Here are a few pics of Microsoft's Windows Home Server reference design to get your hardware juices flowing.
The glowing hockeypuck has a diameter of about 9", with LEDs that glow on the bottom which are intended to map to the overall health of your home network - green is healty, yellow is "failing", and red is "uh-ohh!".
Microsoft advise that no one has taken up their offer to turn the prototype into a production unit, although the
Sony VAIO VGX-TP1 running WHS comes close.
The outer shell is smoked plexiglass which apparently scratches way too easily. The inner shell is machined aluminum polished to a chrome appearance with a "shadow" of the "Windows Home Server" logo on it. The rear panel has power, Ethernet and USB as well as a recovery button.
