Error installing Addins

Hi All,

I've tried to install some addins (e.g. BookmarkIt! and Skip DivX) for my MCE and am getting this error 'this addin can only be installed on media center editions of windows xp'.

Other addins and plugins have installed OK (e.g. MCE Weather).

Does anyone have a work around or a fix for my problem?

My config is:
Windows XP SP2
MCE Rollup 2

Thanks for you help!

Re: Error installing Addins

im only guessing , i had a few problems with some addons when i first got my mc, all it was was i had to go into custom in the update section and update net frame. it might be some thing simple like thay if you have not already done it.

Re: Error installing Addins

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have updated to the latest Dot Net framework.

I've tried to monitor the application installer through Regmon and Filemon to no avail.

Re: Error installing Addins

When you say you've updated to the latest .NET Framework, you are aware that they work independently? Also I don't think any plugins for MCE can use .NET 2.0, as you can't use VS 2005 to develop plugins for MCE. So I would check if I had .NET 1.0 and 1.1 installed.

Re: Error installing Addins

Thanks for you reply headkaze.

I've got Dot Net v1, 1.1 and 2 installed.

Could this be a problem?

Re: Error installing Addins

It shouldn't be a problem, but that should rule that out as a possible issue.

It is a strange bug your getting indeed. Perhaps you could try unintalling all your plugins, run MCE Reset and then try installing them again.

Re: Error installing Addins

I would recommend getting all windows updates via the website.. Also, check under optional updates. That sometimes has MCE related stuff.

I can tell you this, BookMarkIt! is compiled with Visual Studio and I think it checks to make sure your .NET framework is up to date. Maybe this is causing the problem?

Just a guess

Re: Error installing Addins

I have one more idea.

Try this site: http://www.salloway.org.uk/MediaCenter/2004/version.htm

Tell me what version you have.
