FreeEPG & IceTV

Hi guys, just wondering what the difference is between the FreeEPG service and IceTV (other than the bill?).

Sorry if this info has been posted already, but couldn't find it.

Thanks.

Re: FreeEPG & IceTV

The major difference, from my perspective, is FreeEPG lists what show is on and gives a description of the show, ICE TV lists what show is on and usually has a description of the actual episode, not just a generic description of the show.

I'm sure there are other differences too but that was the first one I noticed.

Why don't you try them both out? ICE TV has a free trial. That way you can see the differences for yourself.

Re: FreeEPG & IceTV

I believe they also offer regional areas. Although obviously the data might not be as accurate as those from the capital cities.

Re: FreeEPG & IceTV

So why has FreeEPG escaped the scrutiny of the Networks so far? IceTV was taken to court over copyright issues. Why not FreeEPG?

Rob.

Re: FreeEPG & IceTV

You'd have to ask the networks..... one possibility is that it is a free service and they thought they would test the legal waters against a company making money.

Now that they've got a bloody nose, they might not go ahead, but you can bet if they had won the free services would have received a cease & desist letter from the broadcasters lawyers.

Re: FreeEPG & IceTV

Thanks for the info.

I have tried both and I had trouble selecting programs to be recorded from the FreeEPG guide. Especially channel 10, I would press the record button but nothing would happen. I read some other posts about this happening to other people too. Haven't had any problem with IceTV.

Re: FreeEPG & IceTV

I had problems with FreeEPG where I would set it to record a HD program and it would record the SD channel instead. It appeared there was a DRM lock on recording some HD programs. Likewise, I have never had the issue with ICE TV. Until I saw the previous post I had completely forgotten about that, but thinking bac, this was ther main reason I decided to fork out for an ICE TV subscription.

Re: FreeEPG & IceTV

My 2c is this.
I am quite happy with ice TV's paid service and think it is well worth the $3/week it costs. With iceTV you also PIMP, which allows me to program my MCE from my PDA

Cheers

Re: FreeEPG & IceTV

I have been happy with ICE, I got a great deal ($49.95 for 12 months) with them, if i can get this deal again I will renew, but FreeEPG is really just as good in my opinion and am thinking of just donating $50 to them and using their service.

This was a problem with interaction between Vista & EPGStream. AFAIK, it was fixed yesterday - tested it last night and no longer happen. I think IceTV are overcharging. I am perfectly happy with Free*Epg. As far as I can tell from other forums it has improved a lot just lately.
