What is the guide.bin format?

Hi.

Could anyone tell me what the guide.bin format is?

We're a group of guys here in Norway wanting to convert our raw guide-data into the bin-format, without going around the xml-bladerunner concept. Could anyone help us?

Best regards,
Trond

Re: What is the guide.bin format?

I have no idea. The current MCE guide format is xml.

Note: in the next version of MCE, this xml is changing its schema - its going from a very sparse schema (e.g. <p>), to a much more readable one (e.g. <Program>). The general concepts/relationships arent changing much though - There's a few additions.

I dont expect it would take much to convert the old format to the new format.

Cheers

Mike

Re: What is the guide.bin format?

This is the same problem that I have, I don't know how to populate the MCE.
If is not trough the guide.bin maybe is more easy than I expected.

But is very difficult to find information about this.

I will try find some information in the MSDN, and if some one have this information please let me know.

Re: What is the guide.bin format?

Hey, my family is from Norway too!

The process of creating the guide.bin is as follows:
1. Getting makecab.exe to compress guide.xml (which is your formatted xml file, make sure it is called guide.xml). Call the cab file Guide.cab.
2. Encrypt Guide.cab with key (this can be a string converted from base64). The output of the file will be Guide.bin.
3. Change your EPG Headend Backend to show the new key (thats if you generate a new one each time)
4. Download the Guide in MCE!

What language are you writing your application in?
Also, if you'd like, pm me and ill send you the code all ready to go in C#

Cheers,
Jourdan
