I haven't been able to set an epg after several attempts so I've given up on the idea. The thing is now, at 9:20 every morning, my pc comes out of standby when it tries to download tv listings. Of course there is an error because I don't have a grabber or anything installed.
I just want to disable the epg update but can't work out how. There is nothing in scheduled tasks so I'm not sure what needs to be disabled.
Oops...I may have just found it. Is it the MCE Scheduler Service?
It's listed under 'services' as ehSched.exe- I just disabled and hope that it's the one.
Couple of questions:
1. Is this vista MCE?
2. Do you want to stop the 'waking' and dont care if you cant use MCE after that, or do you want to stop the "waking" but be able to continue to use MCE?
ehSched is indeed the service in Vista MCE that wakes your computer for the EPG download. But its also the service that wakes your computer to do a recording. (Its also used to decouple communication between some of the processes).
With ehsched disabled, MCE wont work very well (or possibly wont work at all). If that's fine with you, I'd probably disable that, and disable the mcupdate task in the task scheduler.
If you want mce to continue to work, I thought that there was a setting to stop automatic download of the epg (i.e. somewhere under tasks->settings). However, I dont have a vista MCE handy to have a look.
Cheers
Mike

1. Nah, I'm using XP MCE05
2.I want it to wake from standby from the remote, which is does quite nicely- even since disabling the service.
If as you say it won't wake to record, then that is no good to me. I want it to wake to record but not to wake to download any epg data.
You mention in tasks>settings I should stop automatic downloads but I can't seem to fidn where that is. Are you referring to within MCE or in XP?
I thought there may be an entry for mcupdate in control panel>'task scheduler' but there is nothing at all in there.
Also, in MCE under settings>general>automatic downloads options, the only option there is to 'Retrieve media info for cd's dvd's and movies from the internet'. I thought there may be an option to disable epg downloads there but....???
Im pretty sure that XP MCE 2005 will require ehsched to be running in order to wake to record. mcupdate isnt present in XP MCE 2005, it was new to Vista MCE.
I was referring to the settings in MCE. If you've hunted around in there, Im probably wrong. I thought there was a way to force MCE into manual download only.

Before i had ever configured the EPG with my MCE2005, there were no scheduled automatic downloads. Can i hazard a guess that as part of your attempted setup, you enabled the EPG in MCE and now it is doing the autodownload? I'm not in front of my MCE at the moment, but in the place where you configure the EPG, are there any settings to cancel it? Surely there must be something there.
But to me this is not the way to go. EPG functionality is a huge piece of MCE and I am curious what problem you faced that forced you to give up. It took me a while to get it working just right, but now that I have, I seldom have problems and I love my EPG.

I am using TVxb and BRP.
I did not enable the EPG upon set up. After many issues with the EPG, I reinstalled a fresh backup which I had created before I did any configuring, then went into set up and when asked 'do you want to use the guide', I said NO. I can honestly say, I have searched and cannot find any setting to stop auto downloads. I have also since gone through Settings>Guide and when prompted if I want to use the uide- I said no.
I realise the EPG is an important part of MCe and would love for it to work but after about 5 attempts with Bladerunner and FreeEPG + OzTivo, I gave up.
Each time, I would go right through the setup without any problem but after aligning the listings with channels, I would lose a few channels and have to go through a re-scan. I tried a few different ways and each time, the same thing would happen. And yes, I have followe all the guides to the letter. I got close once with FreeEPG but a day later, lost 2 channels. I've also posted the issue up here but without a resolution... http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...up-my-mce.html
