I'm currently having a problem with my TV Guide displaying "cannot schedule recording because guide data can't be accessed" error.
I found the fix that GlenR was kind enough to posted here, which i will install shortly.
Within this post there was a link to this site, which explained the steps that need to be taken to get around the problem.
The author is on the development team for Media Center which means that Microsoft are aware of the problem.
He even goes on to mention that the problem will be fixed with the next rollup.
I have their latest rollup (that being the October 2006 rollup, from what i can see on the Microsoft website) installed and I'm still left with this problem.
Are people still using this "band aid" work around for this problem or is there an update that I've missed?
To the best of my knowledge the only answer in MCE XP remains stopping all of the MCE processes and restarting them. Personally I take the easy option for this and reboot daily via a scheduled task after the guide is downloaded.

OK, for a second I thought I was missing out on a big update that no one had talked about.
From some of the posts I've read, my understanding is that this fix doesn't always work and the only solution is to reboot the PC to fix the problem.
This problem has come to a head for me now as I missed out on the entire recording of Live Earth that I had scheduled to record while I was at work because of the guide not working.
I'll see how I travel with this work around and if that fails I'll have to settle for setting up a scheduled daily reboot.

t-man,
would we keep a secret like that from you
I have used the resetting batch process previously and did have a few issues. Since the reboot solution - not a single missed recording due to guide errors.

Well hoping I can get away from the reboot. It's a bit of an inconvenience just having to close and open Media Center to fix the problem as is.
BUT, it's even worse when you miss out on a show you were looking forward to watching.
Another question:
I have a tool that allows you to change the time that Media Center automatically updates the guide.
I'm also using Blade Runner Pro which is scheduled to download and then trigger a manual guide update.
Should I even bother with the Media Center automatically updating the guide if BRP triggers a guide update of its own?

Just use your scheduled task for BRP. BRP downloads the guide, then loads it into MCE - no need to do anything else.

T-man, I know you found my work-around post with the recycle-mce.cmd and i have read your PM.
I had to remove that attachment due to space issues (too many attachments posted ) but I will get it to you tonight. I'm at work now so can't access it.

I didn't think it was still being sought after...
Thanks for that!
Is there any reason why its not being sort after? Are people just opting for a scheduled reboot?
I guess most just reboot - I couldn't because I cannect using DVI-HDMI and if the TV isn't on when the PC boots it can't get the EDID information so you get no image on the TV.
Also most new setups seem to be Vista these days so all those that needed it tended to have it.
No problem though, it's back up and anyone who needs it can have it.
