Exclamation Australian EPG Petition - Ends January 31st!

Australian EPG Petition - Ends January 31st!

Yup, that's right, only a fortnight left before this petition closes off on the 31st of January! We've been sitting around the 1,600 signature mark for quite a while now so everyone needs to get into gear over the next fortnight and get your friends and colleagues who have EPG enabled devices to sign this petition!

Make sure you put in a sensible comment and voice your opinion! Our current 1,627 signatures only represents a minority of Australian EPG market ... We should be looking at at least 10,000 signatures by now!

Sign the petition now ... http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/EPG_OZ/

Why do I need a guide to show me that there is nothing on worth watching, apart from that I know the news is on at 6.

Hey ozbear!

It won't make a different ... at all? Not even one little bit?

Re: Australian EPG Petition - Ends January 31st!

have to agree that a petition will be unlikely to change anything.

but it does not mean its pointless signing it thinking its pointless and doing nothing is worse than not thinking about it at all and doing nothing

maybe someone who signs will come up with a perfect way to convince the media ?

Re: Australian EPG Petition - Ends January 31st!

LOL ... Well sure it won't if everyone takes a passive, backseat role (i.e sit back and do nothing)! So what do you think it'll take to get a free EPG available in Australia?

Oh, did you 'sign' the petition yet?

Re: Australian EPG Petition - Ends January 31st!

Of course

I agree which is kinda what I was saying, I do think that a petition especially a small one like this will do nothing.

They need to realise that not only is it what people want, but it does not mean the end of revenue for them, its just about being more creative. Look to the UK and USA where they still have heaps of TV companies making heaps of cash and a frely available EPG.

Its really holding things back in Australia.

I signed it. Like said, it might or might not make a difference. I think when 40000 people sign it then they may even just have a look.

It isn't always pointless doing nothing. Sometimes, as in this case, it is just being realistic.

It is like taking a poll against gravity. You might get some people to sign it, and they may even feel better for participating (for small values of participation) but in the end, it will change nothing.

Re: Australian EPG Petition - Ends January 31st!

I think even small petitions (like this one has turned out to be) are still of great value. Even if this petition causes at least one person to think about the issue at hand (politician or not) then the whole exercise has added some value.

What we have to really worry about is a 'generation' of Media Center users becoming apathetic to the EPG cause. Just because a technology or service doesn't exist or there are some roadblocks to it's development does not mean it's unobtainable. I'd hate to see a day when people say ... "Oh well, the problem is too big ... Too hard to solve in 5 minutes so I'll just resign myself to the scraps of technology and information from the corporates or monopolies."

Anyway, as everyone has mentioned, this petition is 'small' but it's only due to the apathy or ignorance of this community's issues. This isn't a bad thing, it just means we have to all actively participate in the education of our fellow community members! Let's hope Arkay's next petition (please, please set another one up ) get's a bit more active support.

Thanks to everyone who has signed (and will sign) the petition ... You've made a valuable contribution, even though you may not directly see results or effects of it. Oh, and big thanks to Arkay!

K.
