I think I will have to give up. I have tried so many different things and it won't work. I even experimented with the send_start command so I could experiment with IR positioning. NOTHING! A ls /dev/lir* shows /dev/lirc0 in black highlight and /dev/lircd and /dev/lircd1 in the cyan colour. What would this indicate? Do Austar have any other STB I could try I wonder. Why can't they have their R232 ports open for channel changing? I Can't beleive such a small item has stumped me for so long.
Ok I tried a different approach.
I simply added my remote's details to the dish/general.conf
But before I did I uninstalled lirc and started fresh
Now I get /dev/lircd and /dev/lircd1 as my ls /dev/lir* items both in cyan.
now when I do irsend send_once foxtel 1 I get the following messages
irsend: command failed: send_once foxtel 1
irsend: hardware does not support sending
talk about driving a guy mad.
I'll post my conf files up later, it is a little hard as I am typing on another pc not the HTPC.

If anyone can shed any light on possible problems in these files I am all ears.
Oh and BTW my remote doesn't even work for mythtv at the moment, so I have gone from remote and no transmitter to nothing at all!![]()

Re: How to set up IR Blaster in Ubuntu and mythtv
After making your config file are you copying the whole file over or are you just cupy/pasteing the raw key codes?
It seems a lot different to the one I recorded and the one I found online (posted earlier) for the ABS_1Q76.
You seem to have a lot of extra info after remote name but before the raw key codes.
After you record it just copy the whole file and then change lircd.conf and hardware.conf to point to it. You need the whole file. Also try the one I posted below, supposed to be for your box.
Also to get everything back to normal use the mythbuntu control panel. Just uncheck the remote and transiever boxes and apply. Then recheck and reply again. Should put you back to original config.
Here's the one I found online
Code:# Remotes - Titan/UEC910/Zapper/ATLAS ABS-1Q76 & maybe a flinders box? begin remote name AUSTAR_B flags RAW_CODES eps 25 aeps 100 ptrail 0 repeat 0 0 gap 89738 begin raw_codes name 1 437 262 169 256 164 592 166 257 167 258 166 760 167 592 167 257 167 258 166 593 167 593 166 425 167 592 165 256 167 258 165 257 166 425 166 name 2 435 264 166 257 168 593 168 256 168 257 166 760 165 594 166 258 167 256 167 257 167 593 167 425 166 593 166 257 170 257 169 257 167 592 167 name 3 434 262 164 258 168 593 166 257 165 255 167 759 167 594 166 258 167 258 166 593 166 592 168 425 166 592 165 258 167 257 168 257 167 758 166 name 4 433 262 167 258 167 594 170 257 167 256 168 761 167 592 166 257 166 258 167 257 167 591 166 425 166 592 166 256 166 257 169 425 166 258 171 name 5 434 262 165 258 165 594 169 258 167 257 165 760 167 592 164 257 167 256 168 592 165 592 164 426 167 591 167 255 168 256 165 425 167 426 166 name 6 436 263 165 259 168 595 169 259 166 257 169 760 166 593 167 257 168 256 169 255 167 593 166 424 166 592 166 256 166 258 169 424 167 593 168 name 7 433 263 166 256 167 593 165 257 168 257 165 761 166 593 168 257 166 258 169 593 167 595 166 425 166 592 166 258 167 258 166 424 166 759 167 name 8 433 265 165 257 167 596 168 257 168 256 165 760 166 593 167 257 167 257 168 256 166 593 167 424 166 593 167 257 169 256 168 592 164 258 166 name 9 434 263 165 257 168 594 169 256 167 257 165 760 168 594 167 257 168 258 166 593 166 590 167 425 164 593 165 257 169 256 168 591 168 425 166 name 0 433 263 165 258 167 594 168 256 167 257 167 760 165 592 165 257 167 258 167 257 166 593 167 425 165 592 167 256 169 256 167 257 167 257 165 end raw_codes end remote

Re: How to set up IR Blaster in Ubuntu and mythtv
Well I uninstalled the IR support in mythtv control panel but that didn't help me. I re did it all, I created a new file austar.conf then pasted the data you had for that file (sorry I must have missed that in my scattered reading) then I changed /etc/lircd.conf so it points to the right file also changed hardware.conf as well. I then restarted lirc. Got a button listing for remote austar_B as listed in the file. All good but tried a irsend command and it says hardware doesn't support sending! I did another ls /dev/lir* and it shows lirc0 and lirc1 but in cyan colour. No lircd? And my remote still doesn't work either. So no transmitters or reciever actions.

Re: How to set up IR Blaster in Ubuntu and mythtv
Remote
Sounds like when you un/reinstalled lirc either something got missed and your missing some package/files or it just messed up all your settings.
Have you checked to see if your lircrc file is still intact and working?
It should be /home/YOUR_USER_NAME/.mythtv/lircrc
If it's not there you can probably just create it and use mine from below.
You can ignore/remove the irexec parts at the bottom that point to scripts.
Just double check the name of the remote (should be ok 'cause you have the same remote and config as me).
What about /var/run/lirc/lircd and /var/run/lirc/lircd1 (or whatever number may be there)?
If they are try
To see at least if that works without errors.Code:irsend -d /var/run/lirc/lircd SEND_ONCE ABS_8776 1
Apart from that I'm not sure what file/package may be missing.

Re: How to set up IR Blaster in Ubuntu and mythtv
Well seems I have some time at home without the family tonight I might reinstall ubuntu 9.10 and mthtv 0.22. If I start over I know that I have no bad conf files or missing files. I will install it all and leave mythtv without setting it up at all other than the ir control. I will then see if I can get it to play ball before setting the rest of mythtv up. It is a fairly easy process anyway now I have done it so many times. If I can get the IR blaster working then I will set mythtv up. I don't have anything on the pc at the moment anyway.
I have done a bit more reading around the web and it seems that entering a frequency number into the config file for the remote has helped some people too, maybe this is something I can try.

Re: How to set up IR Blaster in Ubuntu and mythtv
Just a thought. This might not be relevant for the following reasons:
* You guys are using Mythbuntu 9.10 and I'm using 9.04
* .lircrc may have nothing to do with the transmitting side of things
but do you need to add a line to /home/YOUR_USER_NAME/.lircrc ?
I'm only guessing, but I thought it might be worth a shot.

Re: How to set up IR Blaster in Ubuntu and mythtv
Hey I had a WIN! YAY I gave up with the austar box and I thought how about I record the signal from my yamaha receiver and I was able to turn it on and off! So now I know my transmitter works. I also know that my current files are correctly configured so I just need to find the right codes for the austar box. I am wondering if it is in fact recording the wrong codes from the remote??? I remember before I tried my logitech remote that controls the Austar STB and it gave slightly different codes compared to the Austar remote. So I might now try recording the logitech's austar codes. Can't hurt.
Also I checked my lircrc file and couldn't even find one! What would that mean? Why doesn't my mythtv lirc control panel put that in place too???? Not sure at the moment if my MCE is working for mythtv as I wanted to concentrate on the blaster.
I did it! YAY![]()
I ended up using the config file you found me called austar_b. Not sure what I did right tonight and what I had done wrong so many other times but I don't care for the moment.
thanks for answering all my annoying questions! Now I can complete my mythtv set up. Just in time for all the new Austar channels, so I will now create the channel lists and will make a script too

Re: How to set up IR Blaster in Ubuntu and mythtv
I wonder why my MCE remote isn't working? I guess I will have to go and compare your settings against mine. I did have it working before but it hasn't worked for me since reinstalling tonight. Surely it will be simpler to fix than the IR blaster![]()

Re: How to set up IR Blaster in Ubuntu and mythtv
Nice.
And well done for not giving up.
The world is now you oyster
As for the remote I'm not sure. I should have created the lircrc file. Just create it,
/home/YOUR_USER_NAME/.mythtv/lircrc
and use the one I posted earlier, it should work.

I think that's for program specific lircrc configs. As in I think you could have all seperate files for MPlayer etc. Not sure though but I don't have anything in .lircrc that points to my lircrc file. Another enigma
Cheers

Re: How to set up IR Blaster in Ubuntu and mythtv
Do you actually think I need that file? I wish I had looked for that file before when it was working to see if it was present or not. Now I need to add all the austar channels and then alter them all again tomorrow![]()

Re: How to set up IR Blaster in Ubuntu and mythtv
I fixed it, it was a simple matter of deselecting the generate custom key mapping in the control panel for mythtv. All working nowI just need to add those channels.

Re: How to set up IR Blaster in Ubuntu and mythtv
Well done again, this Linux stuff is easy huh? /sarcasm
Just make sure you set the 'Frequency/Channel' field on page 3 of each channel in 'channel editor' (backend).
ie. from my post on page 1
Channel Setup
For each austar/foxtel channel make sure to fill in the following ( I use Arena channel as the example.
Page 1
Channel Name ARENA, Channel Number 105, Callsign ARENA.
Page 3
Frequency or channel 105 - this is the number that myth will send to lirc to change the austar/foxtel box with, so make sure it's correct.
Cheers

Yes I missed that last night at first then I remembered it and added and presto the channels changed for me. You have any tips on getting volume control in mythtv? I use spdif digital output and I get volume control in ubuntu but it just comes out at a fixed volume in mythtv.

Re: How to set up IR Blaster in Ubuntu and mythtv
Nope no idea at all sorry.
My Audio just worked.
Is myth trying to change volume?
Like it shows the volume control bar?
If not it may just be a keybind/remote issue.
If so I have no idea. Maybe start a new thread if no-one else chimes in here.
Cheers
