Time to get with the Times IceTV

Ok I am sick of it, plenty of data sources now for HD channels and what with todays launch of Ten HD and last weeks launch of 7 HD with the promise of Nascar, NFL, new aussie content and other unbroadcast shows I think IceTV should get the data up and running.

I am paying for subscription service therefore I expect to get the data. Plus I just missed recording Black Hawk Down in HD with DD 5.1 as my guide is simply replicated.

What do you all think?

Re: Time to get with the Times IceTV

I agree! Frankly I am getting a bit disillusioned with the service we're getting from Ice. I know they need to sort out the legalistics of it all but it's hard to justify paying for a guide that just isn't correct. Personally I think they should suspend all subscriptions until they get it right. What really irks me is that I and some others had to seriously get into them before they even bothered to inform their subscribers why there was a delay. Surely that's just common courtesy if not just plain good business practice.

I'm annoyed, but I can deal with it for the time being.... provided they stick to their promise to release it within two weeks of the official launch date then I'll be happy.

They do have to hold themselves to a higher legal standard than other providers, and I wouldn't want to see them open to legal action because of this because they do provide good guide data.

What I am ****ed at it the time it took to make an announcement and even that wouldn't have happened if philzgr8 and I had been on their case.

Yes I agree its annoying but if they sort it properly soon all will be good.

Ive been wondering if its going to be feasible to use the EIT data in MCE since that will be at least as accurate and now there are a couple of people writing programs to get it from the stream.

Re: Time to get with the Times IceTV

Yes I think it is time that Ice decided to engage a bit better with it's user base. From where I sit they are living in the 1980's if they think an occasional visit to their forums is acceptable. People pay money for the service and expect to be treated as a valued customer and not just as some number in their profit and loss statement. The simple fact is that if somebody writes a half decent program to rip the data from the EIT streams Ice will be sunk unless they can offer something better in return for people's subscriptions.

Re: Time to get with the Times IceTV

Hi,

I agree with you guys also, even though it hasn't cost me much in the last 18 months. They need to keep the customer in the loop.
I have done a quick experiment with Mythtv using EIT data and it seemed good enough to get by with, so if IceTV don't have a quality offering that increases the experience, I will have less need to have a subscription. I could've been using shepherd anyway on Mythtv.

Re: Time to get with the Times IceTV

I'm not at all happy with that response.

I purchased a 1 year subscription last week based on your forum post stating that it would take 2 weeks.

Re: Time to get with the Times IceTV

Personally I'm absolutely disgusted with Ice's response here. They've been pushing their subscriptions pretty hard lately and we're just not getting value for money. Worse they have falsely stated that they would have the situation under control within 2-3 weeks and they have now recanted. I have made the point on their website that they should immediately suspend all subscriptions until they get it right. Imagine not even giving a date when they expect to fix it and expecting customers to just wear it. Definitely not good enough and extremely unprofessional at best!

Who is writing such programs? Personally I'm thinking that such an extract would be far more accurate than anything IceTV could provide and if it was available I'd be more than happy to pay for the program.

For the record, this functionality already exists in the now defunct ShowShifter. I wouldn't mind betting any such developer could contact the owners of the code now known as Media Phoenix and do a deal for that portion of it.

Re: Time to get with the Times IceTV

Well it looks like they've screwed the pooch, pulling all 7HD (ch70) and 10HD (ch12) guides entirely, which means any recording I may have set to use HD as opposed to SD will fail.... kinda annoyed at that a little bit.

I still have 8 months to go on my subscription, so I won't be doing anything rash, but I think they should seriously have a look at the way they are operating.
