The Ninemsn website includes a section about digital living, in that section they highlight how good Media Center PC's are and why everyone should own one. Among the reasons are the following selected highlights:
They offer all of the functionality of a Windows XP based PC – plus much more. Importantly, rather than having to buy a separate TV tuner and download an EPG to your PC, Media Center PCs come with these already built in. A remote control is also provided as standard for changing channels, accessing programme information and recording programmes directly to the hard drive. It’s also possible to use the handset to control channels on a cable or satellite set-top box.
Additional features Here are just a few of the other features that the Media Center PC offers:
One-touch recording: Press the RECORD button on the remote to record a TV show you are currently watching. The recording automatically stops at the show's regularly scheduled end time.
Auto-record: Automatically schedule recording based on any four parameters: category, programme/movie title, actor, or director.
Record TV programming from the guide: Schedule a single episode or series recording, with or without reruns, while browsing and searching the guide.
Watch recorded TV from DVD: View previously transferred Media Center-recorded TV content from DVD on a stand-alone DVD player or another computer
Pause and rewind Live TV: While watching TV, press PAUSE on the remote control to "freeze" the programme for up to 30 minutes. When you're ready to start watching again, you can skip ahead, rewind, and fast-forward through the recorded show. A pause buffer automatically captures the last 30 minutes of live TV, so you can rewind any time you're watching.
Current position bookmark: Sets a bookmark at the location where you stop the playback of a recording. When you resume watching, the programme automatically cues the playback at the bookmark.
Nah, not really ... Marc Saltzman isn't a dedicated NineMSN technology writer. NeinMSN probably just added his article (along with hundreds of others) without Eddie reading it first!

Well I have some new found respect for Peter. It says he was a co-founder of Fairlight (who were pioneers in the world of Digital Sampling etc). i've messed a bit with synth's/samplers in my time - and thats pretty damm cool!..
This isn't the first time Nine have done this. A few months ago Extra (airs on Channel 9 in Brisbane) ran a story on media centre PC's and PVR's and were proudly showing off the devices ability to pause and FF live TV and even stated that they are great for skipping commercials.
Channel 10 on the other hand, seem to be happy 'spreading the word' about MC's and PVR's with the channel 10 program Cybershack running a couple of stories on Media Centre's over the last few weeks. They even mentioned the bundled ICE Guide EPG with some of the units.
Whether the stations support the new technology or not, they seem very happy to take advertising dollars from any company wanting to promote them. Case in point, LG buying commercial space from channel 9 to promote their new TV's with integrated PVR.
It would appear, at least in Channel 9's case, that the 'company line' is a little fuzzy and hard to follow.
David Richards - Wednesday, 8 November 2006 NineMSN has chosen to toe the PBL and Channel Nine party line and remove a media centre story that tells consumer how to use an electronic program guide that can also be used to remove TV commercials.
PBL which is a part owner of NineMSN with Microsoft is currently suing local EPG content Company IceTV. In the Federal Court lawyers for PBL and Channel Nine have claimed that content programmed to the IceTV EPG service is a breach of copyright and that by including the times of Channel Nine TV programs and information about the programs that IceTV are breaking the law.
Ironically the main beneficiary of the EPG service is Microsoft who manufactures the Media Centre operating system. Around the world Microsoft openly advocates the use of an EPG service to record TV programs and then skip through content, including TV commercials.
Amanda Millar Corporate Communications Manager at ninemsn said "Ninemsn often draws upon the resources of the international MSN network for content. In this case, due to human error, the story was not localised to reflect that Australia does not have an EPG service. Ninemsn respects the copyright of the television networks and has removed the story"
But the problem is that Australia does have several EPG services with at least two organisations now setting up offshore operations in an effort to overcome the Copyright problems in Australia.
