IceTV - People pay money for this? (rant and a problem)

With the supposed demise of EPGRUnner a few days ago I decided to give the IceTV trial a go since so many around here sing the praises.

I installed, things went smoothly for one night untill the next morning when the guide only displayed the ABC (sample) guide. I went through the IceTV trouble shooting steps and the same thing happened the next day and the next.

I've just finished reinstalling MCE since I've been meaning to for a while and I thought it might help solve the problem.

The real problem:
Now that I've finished the install and setup IceTV again my guide is out by 16.5 hrs. The programming for 3:30 tomorrow afternoon is showing up scheduled for 11:00 tonight, my systems date/time is set correctly. Anyone had an experience like this?

Anyone experienced so many problems with IceTV?

Are your region settings set to your current location?

As Warren quite rightly hints your problems are almost certainly environmental and nothing to do with IceTV. One of the most common causes of weird problems like that in my experience is incorrect regional settings and not just timezone either. What I mean is that you may need to make sure that all of your settings are "English - Australia" and your locale is set to Australia as well. If that doesn't fix the problem I would start talking to the IceTV people who have very good tech support by all accounts.

Akuma,

I also had this issue when I installed Ice TV. It took me a day to realise that my timezone was set to Canada (hhmmm can't remember doing that but anyway...). Reset for Sydney and all is good!

BTW - I had a problem with ICE the other night - guide became corrupted and lost the channels etc. Called the helpdesk and the guys there were extremely helpfull and sorted the problem. I couldn't be happier with the service.

Yes one weird thing about the service is that on your ICETV account online there is a timezone setting. log into the icetv website and you can change the timezone settings. also generally when you only get the ABC (sample) channel means that your icetv login information is on your EPG is incorrect.

Akuma the ABC sample is a known issue. Reinstall the ICETV4MCE.exe and run 'get latest listings' and everything is fine again.

I did that three times and the next day the ABC sample guide came back, hence the reinstall. This morning I still had all channels in the guide but with the time still out. Region is correct for Adelaide, I do have the language/Keyboard set to UK English since the computer/keyboard are from the UK.

I'll try setting them to Australia and re-running the Ice setup when I get home. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

From IceTV support section

When trying to 'Add Listings to Channel' the only available iceguide channel is for 'ABC (Sample)', where are the rest?

This generally means that your MCE ID is not registered in our database. This typically happens because a Windows Update has caused your MCE to change its ID.
To re-register your current MCE ID run the "IceGuide4MCE Setup Program" again (if this is not on your desktop then it can be downloaded from the Support page, under the Downloads section) and choose "Existing customer". Once the wizard is complete you will need to re-download the guide data in MCE by going into the "Settings" menu then choosing "TV", then "Guide", then "Get Latest Guide Listings". A confirmation will be received when the download is complete, you can then redo the "Add Listings to Channel" step of the HowTo guide.

I had this problem around Tuesday too... what was the fix for this?
I just did a reboot and it ended up coming back however I wouldn't mind knowing what the official word from ICE was.

Re: IceTV - People pay money for this? (rant and a problem)

LiptonRod,

ICE are aware of an issue and will be releasing a new PIMP shortly.

But see if you can work this one out! I had the same issue AGAIN last night.... I again rebooted and the guide came back. But then at 8.31 while tuned to channel 7 and getting ready to watch the final episode of Lost for the year the channel disappeared...(WAF starting to rise and could feel the end was nigh...) I again rebooted and still not there (WAF reaching boiling point - why did you spend so much money on this thing and it doesn't work blah blah blah... I then changed the coax in (not the loop) from the top card to the second and we were back in business..... Damn flunky MCE...

Oh well hope it holds together for the weekend...

The other option to resolve this is to install the PIMP client (even if you aren't using the PIMP service - why not though - it's free to subscribers), then enable the following setting in the Configuration of PIMP:

"Reset Media Center ID"

Set it to run at whatever time (choose from the "Guide Fixes" "Time" drop-down box) and this should update your Ice ID and resolve this. If it happens again, go into PIMP and choose "Fix Now" next to it, then do a manual guide update from within Media Center (settings/Guide/update guide).

Personally I haven't had this issue happen to me, but PIMP will make sure your IceTV ID is correct and minimise (or stop altogether) this occuring.

Note: I also recommend enabling the DVB Fix option in PIMP as well - this runs a script from one of the Microsoft Media Center team that does a close and refresh of Media Center whilst windows is running. Best to set the time for "Guide Fixes" to happen when you are not going to be watching or recording though. Benefit is it is like a MCE spring cleaning you normally get from a reboot, without having to reboot.

Regards,
Shane.

Re: IceTV - People pay money for this? (rant and a problem)

Just got a 6 month ICE TV subscription! Damn cheap considering I dont need 2 muck around with crappy grabing programs and other crap.

This new PIMP feature is awesome gave me 5 more points towards my WAF aswell.

Re: IceTV - People pay money for this? (rant and a problem)

I've tried IceTV with no problems at all - it worked really well.

However, I don't think it has a payTV Guide and I'm not sure it ever will. Until it does, as much as I'd like to use something all boxed up, I probably wont be able to.

Am I right on this?
