Sony Bravia and AVI's

Hey guys

just wanted to get Sony Bravia users feedback on playing avi's and PQ

i have a 46" bravia X and avi's seem clearer on my brother in laws 40" SD teac

could it be because its designed for 1080 content?

i get some stuttering when camera is panning and picutre looks to pixalated even for an avi

iam using ffdshow and refresh rate at 50

res is at full 1080

HD3650 ATI

CCC 8.4

any feedback would be great

thanks guys

Re: Sony Bravia and AVI's

1. .avis are generally much lower resolution than 1080p. This could be the cause of blockiness as the scaler has to make them fit. Adding some post processing might help.

2. Most will probably be sourced from the United States and be 30fps as opposed to 25/50 of Australian material. This will cause the judder on panning.

Re: Sony Bravia and AVI's

I recommend to get 720p versions of avi's. They look better, but you can always tweak ffdshow to make 315mb files look OK.
Have a look here:
How to install and configure ffdshow

Re: Sony Bravia and AVI's

Made some changes in ffdshow last night and there was a slight improvement

changing the refresh rate to 60 didn't do anythingto improve studdering when panning

i made the change through CCC

thanks guys

Re: Sony Bravia and AVI's

I uninstalled ffdshow last night and reinstalled the latest version (2008-08-30)

for some reason AVI's look better on my Bravia after installing the lastest ffdshow

Iam running the refresh rate at 50 and there is still a little stuttering when panning

should i be dropping the refresh rate in CCC to improve stuttering

Cheers
