HTPC and 2 channel amplifier

Hi,

I'm waiting for my HTPC to arrive. I've used the
Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H MOBO.

I have an old Denon amplifier with Mission Speakers (Stereo only and not 5.1).
Will connect the HTPC to the Sony LCD via HDMI.

Is there a way to connect the sound to go through the amp?
Read about SPDIF .... but how does that connect to my 2 channel amp?

Previously, I connected the dvd player via 2 jacks to the amp.
What is the best setup to connect the amp and speakers.

Re: HTPC and 2 channel amplifier

Given that the AMP is only stereo, i doubt that it has S/PDIF inputs at all.

You'd probably be better off just using the analogue outputs, via a 3.5mm to RCA lead cable.

Re: HTPC and 2 channel amplifier

I've got a similar setup to you. I connect to the TV via HDMI, but have the audio going out through the analogue output of the HTPC. I split the analogue output and send it both to the TV and the amp. It's not ideal 'cause I have to remember to turn the TV volume down when I listen to music, but I can't be bothered fiddling with it as I plan to upgrade my audio stuff sometime soon anyway.

Re: HTPC and 2 channel amplifier

Another question if someone can help.....

Will have the HTPC connected to the LCD TV via HDMI.
I will also connect another monitor via VGA.
Can I watch TV and surf the internet on the other monitor simultaneously?
Will the htpc be able to handle that?

Has anyone done this?

There are ways to do this. Not sure if there is a better solution, but you could just extend the destop accross both monitors and run VMC windowed on one and the browser on the other. You might have some issues with using the keyboard, though, becasue I think MC likes to assume it has exclusive use of remote and keyboard.
