NEC Projector Resolution - Help

Hi,

I have my VMC connected to a NEC HT1100 projector and have been enjoying the cinema like experience for several years. Lately I have been wondering whether I am getting the most out of it since I never really tuned it when I switched from DVD player to Media Centre.

The projector is connected via DVI and I am using an NVIDIA graphics card (EN7300 Silent). It has the latest driver.

http://www.support.nec-display.com/d...0_manual_e.pdf

The manual (link above) shows the projector is capable of anything up to 1920x1080p - but doesnt really tell me what the 'native resolution' is (maybe this is not relevant for projectors?). List of resolutions are near the end of manual.

I have spent hours experimenting with various resolutions and input signals using the nvidia control panel, but cant seem to get anything above a 576p EDTV signal working properly and then only up to fairly basic resolutions. Most often the desktop is covered with blue green images or it looks really off white or it wont display at all.

I have come to the realisation that I dont know what I am doing Please forgive me if I have massacred the terminology.

My questions are -
1. What resolution/refresh rate/frequency should I be using?
2. Will/should this vary depending on what I am watching eg DVD vs HDTV etc?
3. Do I need a custom resolution?

I know it is a pain trying to understand someone else's config etc so any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Coma.

The native resolution IS in the manual you linked to;

Resolution 1024x768 pixels up to 1080p (1920 x 1080) with Advanced AccuBlend

In otherwords

1024x768 pixels is the native resolution. Using the internal Advanced AccuBlend scaler, inputs up to 1080p (1920 x 1080) will be scaled to native resolution.

Re: NEC Projector Resolution - Help

Thanks,

I assume this mean that I should select one of the 1024x768 resolutions?

I tried them all using custom resolutions in the nvidia control panel and no joy.

Where does the HD signal select option come in?

Coma.

Its doesn't since your projector isn't capable of HD natively. Set the resolution to 1024 x 768 via DVI or VGA and let MC scale everything for you. In the setup section of MC select the display to be a 4:3 computer monitor and you should be fine.

Re: NEC Projector Resolution - Help

OK thanks again,

In that case I think there is something wrong with either the projector, the connector or the video card.

I cant even get a decent picture in windows desktop with anything above about 800x600.

Will see if i can test using alternate components.
