Yamaha RX-V1800

It was an opportunity as my old STR940 has lost ability to talk to subwoofer.
I told WAF and she was in a good mood, and said - whatever, but I wiil get PS3 - done and done
In one hour I was back with my new toy Yamaha RX-V1800.

http://www.yamahamusic.com.au/produc.../RX-V1800B.asp

All connected, but need to spend some quality time reading manual and setting it up to my liking.
I will keep you informed with a little review, if there is an interest.

Lucky sod!
Anyway, I would like to be in the market for a new receiver sometime in the future so would certainly appreciate your thoughts on the Yammy and anyone elses on their AV Receivers too.

Re: Yamaha RX-V1800

First little disappointment:
Was watching BD on PS3, and have decided to switch to MCE.
First will describe the connectivity:
PS3 is connected via HDMI
MCE connected via HDMI (DVI-to-HDMI cable) video wise and coax for sound.
Yamaha somehow combines it, without my intelligence

After switching to MCE - horrible pixelation so I had to switch PS3 off to restore PQ.
hmmm, I am a noob in this area, so will investigate.
Video is set to passthru, no upscaling, or so I think.
PQ is the same good as direct from MCE or from PS3.

Sound is a bit flat compare to Sony STR-940 using MCE, but I have spent some time adjusting it, so will have to repeat.
Uncompressed PCM from PS3 is really good - crisp and vibrant, but I want to hear DTS-Master.

Re: Yamaha RX-V1800

It was a impulse purchase. I had a very short opportunity window, until questions would be asked - do we really need it? and so on.
Did I do a good buy?
Not that I can change anything now, but is it a good amp? Only interested in sound, I can always connect it just for sound, no video switching.

OK, in the PS3 settings menus open up BD/DVD settings, then go to the second last item (BD/DVD something or other HDMI) and set it to Linear PCM. If the disc has DTS-MA ...AND you have selected DTS-MA then that what you will get.

To check what the PS3 is putting out when the movie is playing hit the triange button and go to the icon that looks like (i+) and select it, in the top right hand corner of the screen it will/should show you DTS-MA!

If you have the setting I mentioned earlier set to bitstream the (i+) will only show MultiChannel audio with a 1.5Mbit/s bandwidth.

Re: Yamaha RX-V1800

If you're having issues with the DTS-HD audio formats, you might need to do this.
