Heya guys, it's late i have not slept so excuse my stupidity.
We have this stereo system from a few years back a Kenwood Hi-Fi XD-852. It has been in the cupboard the last 1 year so i decided to play around with it, it works besides the volume as far i know. I remember pumping the music to teh max with this at my B'day parties as a kid. Was great fun.
I have always wanted to use the speakers for my puter, never got round to it and seeing as a i completed my new pc i want to actually make it all happen. This is where the fairy tale ends, i am some what clueless where to begin. As far as i read, to make this all possibly work i would need to purchase a amp and/or pre amp in order to amplify the speakers (Just to use speakers)
Retrospect to my intro, i do want to use the head unit of the Kenwood it self and the speakers simply cos i do not want to spend hundreds of dollars on a amp for ****ty speakers. Moving along, with my PC i have a sound card ( The one that comes with Asus P5E) this has all 3.5mm connections, whilst on my motherboard i have optical and co-axial SPDIF output connections. On the Kenwood the only ports are optical OUTPUT and MD/DVD input(RCA)
So this rules out using SPDIF connection? If i am not mistaken unless there are converters available for digital to analog. This would be the most ideal way of going about this cos i hear digital cables use different signal to analog(obviously)
Well currently on the sound card i am using my Logitech x-530 5.1 on it( Also another problem where 4 speakers don't work just the from two, like wtf) Anyways so the sound card is used like that. Thats why i want to add SPDIF connection to i can use both?
I had lots of people give me criticism in a very evangelical way saying it is not possible unless you get an amp fullstop. Fair enough i am no expert but i was playing around with it the other day and when i use the MD/DVD input from stereo (using RCA-3.55mm cable) and plugging it into the green jack of the sound card, i am getting sound via stereo hehe
Anyways i am here for help and any piece of advice will be taken aboard and appreciated.
Cheers Sam
