Pioneer Kuro

well after 200 hours it's time to set my Kuro back to normal settings. However i changed the movie and the user functions.

Does anyone have the settings as i don't want to reset the tv back to defaults on everything.

Also what have you found are the best settings to use......?

Re: Pioneer Kuro

Don't you get free calibration and installation with Pioneer plasmas?

http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showforum=6 might have some tips in the Pioneer owner's threads.

Cheers,
Birdie

Re: Pioneer Kuro

when you get the set they are all setup the same, no real calibration work is done.

I checked the panel and have 170 hours on it, not enough to get the ISF guys in yet. However i did find some good information, which i will post up later.

Re: Pioneer Kuro

ok update.

Earlier this week i have the TV calibrated. The difference is quite remarkable really, especially for blu ray disks.

i was loosing a lot of black shades (seems the nvidia chipset color definations were way off) and i was loosing a lot of the black tones, and too much blue.

So now i will have to watch underworld again.

Also speaking to calibration person, about the different TV's and adjustability, Pioneer by far is out on top. For the nvidia chipset and how far my colors were out, if i had say a panasonic display it would not have been able to compensate.

The next closest panel with adjustability was the sony, but still did not have some of what the pioneer could do.

In the end highly worth it.

Re: Pioneer Kuro

Thanks - have just emailed them for a quote.

I too have the exact same Plasma but am not sure how many hours i have on it as its a couple of months old. Where do i go to check the hours.

Also, how do they do the calibration? Is it done by his mark one eye ball or do they have specialised equipment? Did it take long for them to complete?
And is it really worth money, i mean does it make a huge difference?

Anyway looking forward to your reply

James

Re: Pioneer Kuro

specialized equipment. You need 200 hours up.

There was document somewhere on how to do it .

check this thread and i am sure it has link to instructions.

Thanks for doing the hard work and putting up this information. I've just ordered my Kuro - based on your findings and my impressions from comparing it to the latest Viera and Bravia equivalents. I'll be using VMC - are the default decoders fine?

thanks again

Took delivery today - man what a tv.

Do you know how to resolve this one? When I put the media centre to output a 1080p signal at 60Hz the picture on the TV is not quite full screen i.e. there's a black border running around the outside.

My video card is the Ati Radeon 1800 Mobility and I connect to the TV via DVI out from the Media centre to HDMI on the TV (i.e a DVI to HDMI cable).

Any ideas?
TIA

Scrap that - I went through the MCE monitor configuration and switched to 1080p at 50Hz (it was 1080i at 60Hz I think) and that did the trick

Are you connecting via HDMI? And if so, do you have the input signal setting to PC or Video?

thanks again

Re: Pioneer Kuro

Can anyone advise on this because I'm having a serious case of wtf

The manual says to Select the Video (default) input type when a PC is connected. Underneath that, it says to Select the PC input type when a PC is connected to the HDMI input terminal. (This is page 55 in the manual for what it's worth).

In Video mode, the tv Overscans so you lose the edges of the picture but the picture looks generally better and you have access to a lot more settings. In PC mode, the picture fills the screen but the settings are a small subset of what's available in the Video mode, the picture looks a little saturated colour-wise and less smooth.

You need to use video mode and turn the picture mode to Dot-By-Dot. I am presuming you have a 1080p panel?
