Ok...i've finally decided to think about sticking a decent set of speakers on my HTPC (see sig)
Not looking for 5.1 or 7.1...or 1000W RMS per channel
at the moment am using the TV's built in speakers...
So yea, just something that is better then my current speakers...and not expensive, im in the process of building a House!
I personally don't like the idea of using Computer speakers (ie, logitech X-240, etc)
EDIT, also...can connect either through 3.5mm-> RCA or Opcital/Coax from my X-Plosion...would prolly prefer optical/coax...
If you just want 2.0 or 2.1 then DON'T go optical or coax as this implies a dolby processor. You've already got one in your machine so use it to do the processing and send the sound out via analog to a set of powered speakers.

which i can get for ~$169...but the second link you gave me looks pretty good aswell.
Hmm...so hard
Indeed, I've listened to the ones in the second link and for stereo they **** all over anything logitech have to offer with their little plastic tinny speakers.

Ok, I have to step in.
The reason of 5.1 is the central speaker.
All speech and main sounds comes out of it.
You cannot replace it with 2.1 or whatever.
You can run 3.1 as I do now, due to some logistical reasons, but it means that I have 5.1 processor + 2 front + 1 centre + 1 subwoofer.
2.1 is crap - sorry to tell.
I have 2 rear speakers in another room - for music. Will resolve in the future.

You know about downmixing don't you Vlad? All 5.1 audio tracks can be downmixed to stereo, its in the dolby and dts spec. But you are correct if you run non downmixed 5.1 through only two speakers it sounds like crap. How big is this broom and how much time do you spend with it that it needs speakers?

meh, i don't really care about the middle speaker...i never understood that, y have the voice come out the centre speaker if someone was standing behind the camera or to the side...why not have it come out the speaker its closest.
@ExtremePC, yea, thats what i was thinking...Logitech do make some good stuff, but its nothing compared to proper hi-fi stuff!
